Blue Moon colonials For the Sudan
« on: May 01, 2013, 06:13:31 PM »
Quite surprised to see these being released in a way as the Perry's have the market wrapped up in terms of troop types and quality but here's a few sample pics:

Oh I say! Northwest Frontier to make an appearance soon, I wonder whether Boxers might turn up after that  :D
Jolly good!

I like the look of the Fuzzy Wuzzies but not at all sure the camels look right - necks seem very thin and the legs look too stiff and straight and lack knobbly enough knees

I like the Fuzzy Wuzzys and can see my self getting some of them. Quite like the British too but not keen on the Egyptians at all for some reason.

Ah, didn't notice that one  o_o.

Still, I think my preference remains firmly in the 28mm camp  :D

I'd be very interested to see how they compare with the old Minifigs, Essex and Two Dragons ranges once someone gets their hands on some, please.

Got to get those Fuzzy Wuzzies! BM have the full list of planned releases for the Sudan (but no Bashi-Bazouks?!) on their website already and have announced plans for NWF, Zulus and Boxers to follow. There's also a preview of a beautiful Afghan hill fort/palace

I can't say about essex but, I can tell you based on their Darkest Africa range that they are noticeably larger than Minifigs, Two Dragons and Peter Pig.

I may be pickier than most though.

I've got some K&L HO medics and casualties from the War Between the States that intend to use with these figures. They are good match for the Blue Moons I have.

I'll get a comparison photo up and you can decide.

These are really nice looking figures though. My only hope is that they give us some British Infantry in loose trousers.

Y'all I'm hopeless at figuring out how to post a picture or a link or much of anything but here's the address to the comparison pictures on my flkr account.

I got all the relevant 15mm I could get my hands on except for an old hinchliffe indian cavalry figure...very small.

efred,

While Blue Moon are certainly larger than most 15 mm ranges, except for Irregular generally and maybe Lancashire, you do have to take it range by range.  I have Pirate, Wild West, Africa, French India War, TWI figures from them and with the sole exception of the African native figures (much bigger than most of that range), none of them scale out close to any of the plastics I have in 1/72.  And HO is really too big for matching though I know some people use them.  I use the HO animals but only because some items I want cannot yet be found in 15 mm.

You have a lovely comparison photo but you did use a figure from one of Blue Moon's largest offerings that I am familiar with so that should be taken into account.  Even so, to my eye, you can use all of those figures on the same table if not in the same unit.

Maybe that's why the K&L (very small 20mm...think original Arfix) look good beside the Blue Moon I have.

Looking at the pictures the first third don't look that bad together. I am really picky though.

That's where the pictures come in handy.

In fact, these days I don't bother with anything but vintage 25mm colonials but, the Blue Moon look so good that I'm going to get some...like with Rif Raf miniatures. I'll buy some just to support good sculpts if nothing else.

I meant to post a comparison with the K&L figures. I'll get one up.

I think the Beja are decent but the British quite 'messy'. I really wanted to do the Sudan using 15/18mm but I couldn't find anything I liked as much as the Perry figures I now have. I knew Blue Moon were working on these some time ago but having seen them they aren't good enough to persuade me to change scale from 28mm to 18mm.
