Hell Dorado, help me pick my KS rewards!
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:44:06 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just received my invitation to the backerkit pledge thingy for the Hell Dorado campaign and I need your help. I simply don't know which figures to choose for my ~$100. I currently own a Lost starter and an Immortals starter box. I find the Immortals figures rather fiddly to construct so I was thinking about switching to Lost and Saracens instead. If you were going to add figures to a Lost or Saracens starter box, which figures would you choose? Mercenaries are ok too!

Thanks for your help.

I've got most of the Westerners, but I never buy starter sets so I don't know what comes in them.

From the Saracens I like the Hunting Panther and Pillar of The Faith. I love the Mercenaries and have been buying a few of those. I like Guillaume de Sablé, Russian Trapper, Angelo Casaviecchi and Charon. I love painting their figures as they've got loads of attitude to them.

I agree, the models are really nice. I do wish some of them were a little easier to put together though. I've been fighting with the leader of the Immortals box for quite a while.

The Saracens starter has five figures in it: Nazir ibn Hamid ibn Haijad (Emir), Chams al Majid (Djinn), a Pillar of Faith carrying swords and two Blessed Warriors.

I have the Hunting Panther on my short list...

- Inferno Rulebook
- Immortals Blade Master human
- Saracens Hunting Panther
- Saracens Tarik Malik ibn Rushd
- Saracens Hashashin
- Lost Ashoka
- Lost Sling Maiden
- Mercenaries Andre de Montbard
- Mercenaries Thirty Coins
- Mercenaries LE Traveler
- Mercenaries LE Traveler Officer

Right now this puts me at $24 over, which I'm fine with in the long run. I can buy the Saracens starter locally for cheaper than I can get it through Cipher, but my local shop doesn't carry the single models from the range. I'm just not sure if all of the figures I like will be useful in the game.

I never buy directly from Cipher as I can always find it cheaper online. FRP has a good price on them. If a figure isn't perfect for your game, buy it for the Wow appeal. Sometimes that's worth it.

I ended up doing exactly that, choosing models that I liked the looks of more than anything else. I had to pay for the extra added stuff but I'm looking forward to receiving them. The pledge manager wasn't awesome to use, mainly in that after you fill it out there are two additional questions (for your LE and free $10 figure), but not a big deal. I simply added two more choices and considered it a bonus.

Here's what I ended up choosing in the end:

Limited edition figure choice - Limited Edition Retiarius
Free $10 figure - Imperial Sentinel (Immortals)

- Inferno Rulebook
- Alternate Succubus (Demons)
- Blade Master human (Immortals)
- Hunting Panther    (Saracens)
- Tarik Malik ibn Rushd   (Saracens)
- Hashashin (Saracens)
- Ashoka (Lost)
- Sling Maiden (Lost)
- Andre de Montbard (Mercenaries)
- Thirty Coins (Mercenaries)
- LE Traveler (Mercenaries)
- LE Traveler Officer (Mercenaries)
- Templar Squires (Mercenaries)
- Lemure Pack B

That'll be more than enough figures for me to get in lots of good gaming after I add my two starters. I'll be picking up a Saracens starter box at the end of the month locally, so I'll have three factions plus a gaggle of Mercenaries to swap in and out of the lists too.

I'm quite excited to add these all to my miniatures collection! I think the Hell Dorado setting is really ingenious and the models are great. It's a shame that the prices are on the high side, but...since (most of) the character cards, and the quickstart rules, are available for free download I suppose there's not much to stop a person from proxying models in to play.

Now just to sit and wait... :( For new toys! :D

You got some good ones. The Hunting Panther, Ashoka, The Sling Maiden and Andre are all on my wish list. I keep coming back to look at Thirty Coins because it has a classic simplicity to it.  I'll pay the money for a quality sculpt and I don't want to paint units of the same thing over and over and over again.

Hey did you see the Drake Kickstarter when it was up? It's so cool. I bought an Army Box and I got loads of great extras. I only paid $85.00 and what I got will easily retail at around $200.00.  I picked the Garrick Army. The dragons are awesome in this thing.  Here's the link

I hadn't seen that one no. I'm currently trying to decide if I want to pledge on any other campaigns. I've supported a lot of them over the past year. The three I'm currently looking at are Tablescapes, Deadzone and Guardians Chronicles. I certainly don't need any of that stuff, but they're all still pretty tempting.
