Just got my copy of Strange Aeons
« on: 08 May 2013, 06:41:30 PM »
WOW! Uncle Mike, you have really impressed the hell out of me! Your product is quite possibly the nicest presented rulebook I have ever see. Great coverstock, full color inside, nice gloss paper, the works. It looks nicer than most rpg products too! THANK YOU for the detailed example of game play. It really illustrated the game well. I actually asked my local game store if they could get these and they did! Unfortunately, I purchased my copy from NobleKnight first. Oops. Well I'm going to buy a second copy anyway as that's how cool the game is! I also picked up a pack of Threshold agents with the rules. I have never painted resin miniatures before, but I cleaned up the mold lines and washed them carefully like I do with all my metal figs. I love that female agent with the sawed off shotgun holing the cigarette. Now that dame has moxie!

One question though. Does the 30 caliber machine gun refer to something like a BAR or Lewis gun? You definitely need to make a pack of agents with one of those! Actually a pack with one agent with a BAR, another with a Thompson, and a third with two .45's would be totally freakin' AWESOME!

Welcome to the club! :D

Let me tell you, I had the exact same reaction when I got the rules. And when I've played it, my brother and I did it for whole saturday, it is that awesome  :D

If you're new to smaller, unknown games (i.e. GW guy :D), the first thing you have to know is - this is your game, everything works. So thompson could as well be Mp40 or Mp18...any smg really. But to be more precise, BAR is a "machine gun" and does indeed use .30 cal ammo, so that is it, yes. I got Lewis gunner for mine, but I would love to have a fedora and suit guy sitting behind "actual" Browning M1919 .30 cal machinegun, hehe.

Great game and lots of fun. Stat up that Threshold list and help us save the world...or go insane trying!

A BAR isn't a crew-served weapon, so I'd figure that it's more a Lewis or an M1919.

Don't worry about the wife killing you...with all the lead in your blood you'll probably reanimate as a metal golem. Maybe not, but it's certainly something to make her think twice!  lol

Northtroll, welcome to the club.

Mathyoo has it right, choose a figure that you like and find a similar weapon type on the Master Weapons Table that tells the story as closely as possible.

I used a two man team with a water-cooled .30cal. MG in my Threshold list. My Character and a Civilian together satisfied the '2-Man' rule for this monster slaying machine. When the Character took 'Action Hero', I switched over to a figure with a Lewis Gun 'cause I like the look of them... 'Lightning Fast' lets him ignore the 'Ready' rule.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Oh, one question regarding .30cal...when you use it, you don't have to nominate the guy in base to base with the shooter to shoot? And I guess the one base to base can still use his own weapons?

Correct.  It is often easiest to just use a Civilian for this purpose.  He is really just helping to feed the ammo belt, steady the gun, spot targets etc. and not actually using his own actions to shoot.
Now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb...

Also worth noting that the "loader" model is free to take its own Actions as well, if nominated - I often like arming them with a bolt-action rifle.  If the 2-man weapon has already fired that turn, you can even move or charge away.

Oh, and about that agent with two .45s... how about a .45 and a Tommy Gun?  Just wait a few weeks.  ;)

So the 'no mixing' rule for two different weapons is a VUK thing only?

'Cause I really liked that figure when I played with it here in Vancouver. :-*

My model with the Thompson and Colt is easily my favorite, and I think one of the best UMW sculpts. Hell, I like the sculpt better than a lot of Murch and Copplestone stuff. It's really quite good.

A model in SA can have as many guns as he wants, as far as I can tell from the rules, and choose which one to use. I generally keep a gun and a truncheon of some sort...as my Marine buddy used to say..."Missiles out of range, (flexing bicep) SWITCHING TO GUNS"

While I'm all for a golf-bag full of weapons.... I was thinking in terms of the 'Two Fisted' skill.

Ah, I see. I've always played that you essentially make two attacks on the same target using the weapons attack stats as listed...but I like games like Ganesha makes where you can "gruesome kill" people.  >:(
