Frenchmen without overcoat
« on: May 08, 2013, 10:34:06 PM »
could you use Belgians as early war French troops without the capote/overcoat?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Strictly speaking no, but it depends how anal you are. Their ammo pouches were different, the rifles were Mausers and they wore gaiters and not puttees. Their officers wore 'British style' uniforms too. There are a number of other differences too, but these are the most obvious to me.

Me too, but I'm not aware of any. Artizan do French Foreign Legion that would work, but they're not in helmets. Motorised troops with head swaps would work, but nobody even does those in 28mm.

I was going to do mine by picking up Battle Honors French Alpine troops. They have all of the right uniforms, weapons, and kit of French troops without overcoats except they have berets. Headswaps to Adrian helmets (Gripping Beast or Empress SCW Adrians) would immediately make them French troops in light order. Battle Honors French stuff is excellent. I have a platoon of their Motorcycle/Mechanized troops and a platoon of the fusiliers with the MAS 36 rifle. Can't say enough good stuff about them.

Hope that helps,

Keith

How do the Battle Honours fit with Warlord for size?  ???

They won't mix IMO. The Warlord French are too slim and small. Not sure why you would want to mix them, since Battle Honors make everything you would need as far as weapons. Unless you plan to mix uniform types, then I would suggest getting some Battle Honors regular French packs to go with them. Same sculptor and weapons.

Hope that helps,

Keith

I have a good sized Warlord force for France 1940 already - French, Germans, and BEF. The idea of French motorcycle troops appealed to me - can't seem to find them on the web, though...

But thanks anyway, eh?  :D

Here are some pics of my Battle Honors French motorcycle recon troops to give you an idea of the style and size. Unfortunately, I don't have a comparison pic with other ranges like Warlord.

Great looking army! I too wished someone made motorcycles and sidecars - that's what I wanted.  ;)

Thanks again.  :)

I wasn't even aware Battle Honours did 28mm figures, let alone WW2. I find it quite sad that these are not promoted better.

They're sold by Old Glory 15's in the US: http://www.oldglory15s.com/25mm-Battle-Honors-World-War-II_c278.htm

Timecast just carry some of their 15mm... but I'm sure that if interest was generated, they might consider widening what they carry.
