Just Ordered IHMN - What can I expect?

So, it's in the mail and I'm in Australia so it will take a few days to get here.
So what can I expect of this set of rules?

Also, do I need any of the sets of figures or can I use my large collection of VSF/Steampunk figures?

People over here were able to pick up their pre-orders at Salute, so a couple of weeks of gaming have been available

So what can I expect of this set of rules?

An excellent, easily picked up, set of skirmish rules with a do-it-yourself Company building system included.

I think it helps to have a good few markers/tokens to show who has moved each turn, but others seem to be doing without. I think the bigger the game, the more helpful this will be.

I think that you are going to enjoy yourself as I have not found anyone complaining yet.

No you don't, but they are rather good. There are eleven companies listed in the rules, and a fully- featured points system so you can devise your own as well. On the IHMN blog, in the Bonus Material section, you will find an article showing you how to create a reasonably well-balanced company of your own.

Charles and I are the sort of chaps who actually want you to experiment and do your own thing. So have fun and let us know how you get on.

I have played a lot of gaslight. Not the skirmish game, mainly big battles. The only VSF themed skirimsh game I have played is Empire of the Dead which is good fun.

If IHMN allows for constructing your own factions it will be interesting. Even better is if it has rules for designing your own Vsf vehicles or weapons.

My biggest criticism of Gaslight is the points system is very poor. Gaslight promotes a kind of arms race as we all enthusiastically kit bash and scratchbuild machines. We run into problems where games can very quickly become unbalanced.

I hope IHMN has a good points system.
