renegade 1/35th panther
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:26:50 AM »
Been feeling depressed again lately, but git this finished last night.
It's not really for use in game, its just something I wanted to paint, I know people say these things don't fit 40k, but it fits MY 40k.

link doesn't work for me.
Anyway, the last people I would ask what fits with 40K are 40K gamers, usually brainwashed if spending too much time in a GW store.
I have a largish collection for 40K and half the vehicles are 1/35 conversions and they fit very well

Unfortunately, same here, links don't open.

Just what others have said, it's your 40K army, you decide what fits and what doesn't.

Odd, they open here so I'm not sure what's wrong, I can't use photobucket either

I just tried using flikr, imageshack and a few others as well, none of those work for me either, oh well, just delete this thread I guess

Are you using a mobile internet service (via UMTS or something)? The "1.2.3.9/bmi/" needs to go (it indicates a provider re-route practice to save a couple of bytes). I fixed the links above for you.

Also, nice bit of modelling and painting! My main issue with using "historical tanks" for WH40k is simply that they are too recognizable (less so if you use obscure stuff) and tend to stick out a bit. And maybe that the detail is too fine to work properly next to GW kits.

That's another issue
but 40K armies are usually "themed" themselves, think of pretorians, catachans, valhallans etc. So why shouldn't they be WWII themed?
with the details - I don't think so. Never had trouble combining

That's quite a beast, perfect for traitorous followers of corrupting powers  :-*

Do you already have infantry support for it as well? Urban themed force, I gather.

At the moment I have no infantry, mostly due to cost, I usually just do the tanks since Tamiya tanks are cheaper than GW infantry.............that sounds so Irish.

This tank was urban themed, but I like to think renegades aren't too fussy about camp, this one was captured from one of the regiments of my main military force in my background, but others may have any camo.

Makes sense, more "hogus-bogus" formation for the traitors. Gives you also quite a nice diversity in paint schemes which is good. My IG projects stalled always because of the uniform paint schemes  lol

Lovely job on the tank.  I really like how you did the scrapes and rust at the front, and will be stealing your ideas in the near future - any tips on the technique?

I have no objections to facing non-GW figures and vehicles, especially since the IG has units wearing everything from 19th Century colonial British uniforms to WWII Russians, Vietnam Rambo clones and not-WWI gasmasked figures.  Doubly so if they're painted as nicely as yours.

Salt.

I sprayed with red army painter primer first (as tanks should be) then wet areas you want rusty before sprinkling salt over it, then leave it to dry.
Then spray the colours you want, and once finished and the paint is dry run it under a cold tap and wipe it off with a brush and finger.

Then you just stipple those areas orange and yellow, wash devlan mud/agrax earthshade, and that was it I think.

It's a beautiful tank Moriarty.  I think it's a lovely fit for 40K.  Really nice weathering too.
This is my boomstick!

Thanks for the comments, its all practice for my next project hopefully, which should be a hobbyboss 1/48th KV-1, with a death Korp vanquisher turret and GW accessories, choice now is do I do loyalist, or renegade, and do I do an entire battlegroup.
