For me, the way to a nice paint job is a great sculpt to start with

For those that are interested, the technique used is a white undercoat, all over base color brush-on/heavy wash, then a 'stain' with either my black stain coat (local product) or army painter Strong or Dark tone as required. Once the base coat is on all 'brown' type colors that take an Army Painter wash are applied. Once that's done, flat varnish and touch up....done!
Quite simple and straight forward...the key is a crisp paint job and, as I said, an excellent mini to start with.
