New Victorian build - Shop Thingy - FINISHED page.4
« on: 27 May 2013, 12:46:02 PM »
Hi all,

I haven't had much hobby time recently so all I wanted to do was put together a straight forward simple shop. That was a fail as I've made it a bit more complicated by adding a small warehouse to the rear which would fit in nicely with a riverside/wharf layout I'm working on.

I've used my usual technique of embossed styrene sheets attached to foamed PVC. As with the pub I'm completing each section of the build fully before sticking it all together as I find it's easier to paint and add detail using this method. Here's a few pics of where I am with the build.

The shop front (my first one). The shop window frame and sign is made from cut and shaped styrene, it's a bit basic but I'm happy with it and I can only improve on the detail with further builds. The door is balsa with letter box and handle still to be added. The upper windows are Grandt Line S scale:

Here's the rear warehouse bit. The wooden bits are all balsa, the platofrm looks sloped but it's just the wonky angle of the photographer after a few bank holiday ales. The pulley is from Langley and I still need to attach the rope. This part of the building will have an apex roof whereas the shop section at the front will be flat:

Here's a side section to give you an idea of how the roof will work. The lower section on the right is where the apex roof will be and the higher section on the left will be a flat roof similar to my pub and terraces. The large section of brickwork on the left will be covered by an advertisement and I'll try and achieve the 'painted on look' again with decals:

Sorry it isnt anything exciting at the mo but hopefully it will look better once the roof and other detailing is added.

Thanks chaps  :)

I could do better though. I have some great ideas on paper but not the time or skill to turn them into actual builds  :(

Excellent work! I'm looking for ideas for VBCW themed terrain. Would you be able to link to the thread with the pub or other terrain you've done?

Stunning work, as usual, Thunderchicken!
 :-* :-* :-*

It is scarily weird how you manage to get one so excited by looking at a brick wall!

To me this bulding looks absolutely great. No need to be overmodest.
