Action at Rawnslie Les Bains, 1918
« on: 07 June 2013, 07:03:49 PM »
A few {poorish} camera phone pictures of a Bolt Action WWI game played at Phil's recently. All the figures, buildings and terrain are from Phil's wonderful collection. You'll probably guess from the pictures that I was the British!

The British Plan ~ outflank the village, using natural cover, while drawing the enemy's fire with one squad...

The Plan seems to be working...

The action hots up as we finally spot each other...

Despite some losses my brave lads seize a foothold in the village...

The Hun finds himself flanked...

The British squad equipped with rifle grenades see off a fleeing Hun squad, just before being straffed by their own side!!!

Probably the defining reason the game ended in a draw: my lads were unable to drive out the remaining defenders due to an arillery strike in turn 6! Only one extra turn resulted from the dice throw, so despite overwhelming numbers, the British could not dislodge the few remaining Hun! The result: a draw. Great fun though. I expect that Phil will be along with some twisted Hun version of events later!

Smashin' pics. I think cameras on phones must be getting better because I wouldn't have guessed that was how they were taken.

Lovely looking game. I rarely stray onto the WW1 or WW2 boards as they are not my thing, but I am glad I did today :)

Well, I'm glad that you did, as noone else seems to have bothered. Hardly worth the time and effort I'm beginning to think.

We think they manage the late war pretty well, even in an instructors handbook dated 1942, squads are still 8 men and termed as, riflemen, bomber, Bren (WWI would be Lewis of course)group. I will be doing a write up on my blog over the weekend, I will post a link here when it is up.
