Northstar's/Peers' Death in the Dark Continent: Maori and Polynesians?

Has anybody here tried adapting Northstar's or Peers' Death in the Dark Continent Rules to gaming Maori and Polynesian warfare, from before any contact with Europeans?

I suppose that new terrain options may be needed, and that boats would take on a much more important role, but would the rules as written cover the basics of their weapon systems and warfare, such as Maori tao, taiaha and patu, and Hawaiian pikes?
