Guys,

I've put together a shorting how-to on building magnetic movement trays. Mine are for Dux Brit, but it out to be of fairly general use. I estimate the total cost for the six trays to be less than £1.50 - and I think this is a fairly pessimistic estimate!

Nice.
I do  my skirmish trays in a similar way.
Metall from metal biscuit tin or similar tin box - I cut it with a rigid carpet knife or tinner's snips.
Instead of MDF I use 3mm Selitac

(I bought a pack of the stuff for buildings - 10 squaremeters is enough to make buildings for severall tables - so i thought about other uses for the stuff. Cutting base sized holes in this stuff works like a charm.
Selitac is glued to the metal with superglue, then pva glue and sand is added.

Bone - that looks like interesting stuff. Extruded polystyrene foam can be hard to find in the UK. The fact you can get it like this is a great find! Thanks for sharing!

In my local DIY these are way cheaper. Wonderfull material to work with. Textures can be applied with a pencil etc.

Concerning my movement trays: I forgot to add that i use mostly plastic miniatures - 8+ metal ones might be too heavy for my movement trays.

Great minds think alike! 

Using metal as the base of a movement tray is the only way to go. I use .5mm coated steel I got cut by a sheet metal place as seen about half way down on this page:

The top part is made of card and the middle blue insulation foam cut to the appropriate thickness and edged with balsa. These days I'm using the slimline bases you can see on the same page and I intend to simplify the whole top part construction by getting 2mm MDF laser cut to fit.
