Looking for Korean war era terrain

Looking for Korean war era terrain in 28.
Or any thing that would be appropriate for the peninsula in that era.

"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Having watched a long running series about the crazy antics of a group of madcap military doctors set during the Korean War, I gather it all looks like southern California.  ;) Actually most photos of Korean landscapes seem to show hills covered in dun coloured scrub or despending on season dusted with snow.

Jim Bibbly's Chinese rural buildings look like a good start point for rural terrain. For Seoul, Inchon or Pyongyang any mid 20th C range of destroyed , fire gutted buildings would suffice. Imex does some decent prepaints in 1/72 that look like they would work but there are plenty of specialist 28mm manufacturers out there.

Not to put myself out of work but my buildings as far as I can tell wouldn't really for the bill. I've had a look for rural Korean buildings in the past and they are more similar to Japanese but with enough differences for them not to be able to be used.

I'm obviously open to new research if there is some out there (I only had a cursory look for a couple of days).

Yeah, I was just looking at them and they seem to be a mismatch of Japanese and Chines building designs, but more rustic.

I would imagine the Japanese influence to be quite strong in the 1950s, as they had pretty much annexed the country in the late 19th Century. Rural buildings seem to be heavily thatched, with quite simple mud walls in some areas, while others have less substantial wooden slatted or panelled ones.

More urban buildings share a lot of common features with pretty much anywhere else in the temperate zones of the Far-East, with brick buildings (rendered or bare) mixed up concrete ones and a mix of flat and gabled roofs. Tiles and corrugated iron seem to be the commonest roofing materials.

It's going to be a case of making your own I think... 'Samurai' buildings are likely to be too archaic or too 'Japanese' I would imagine. Having said that, some of Jim B's buildings, with thatched roofs, would work for me. Some of the square or rectangular thatched 'Dark Ages' buildings out there, might fit the bill too.

 :)

Yeah from what I have seen, lots of scrub and thin trees on the hills. I would imagine bamboo groves in the low lands and draws.
Rice fields in the lowlands.
Rural farms seem to be walled compounds made with mud and it brick. With some of them when having grain towers. At least from the few pics I have seen.
What other things are stereotypical Korean? I head that they bury there dead standing in hug mounds and the like.

Fields, fertilised using human ordure. The Korean peasant was very thrifty. Not sure how you would model that though.

For the static, trench warfare stage you'll want plenty of sandbags and bunkers. I'd also suggest getting a mini iPod and a concealed pair of speakers. Play Gangnam Style repeatedly during lulls in the fighting and tell your opponent it's 'Psy war ops'. It should dispirit your opposing player if nothing else. No need to do the actions.  :D

No worries on that front but the paddy fields I do should suffice  :)

I definitely remember Don Featherstone saying that UN troops were incredibly reluctant to enter paddy fields 'cos of this and he wouldn't let them go off road in his games.

Yeah, We didn't like to walk though the fields in Afghanistan ether because of that. But smelling like dung and is a small price to pay for not stepping on a mine. That being said, nearly half of 3rd platoon got dysentery while we were there. Related maybe?  lol
