WIP Murawski Miniatures Poles for Leipzig
« on: June 26, 2013, 06:18:09 AM »
I'm off to Wellington (the place not the bloke) in October to take part in a big Leipzig game. A mate sent me link and I was kindly offered a place as Poniatowski. Not only does that mean that I have to practice my swimming again but I have to actually paint the blighters
Its a 28mm game, I normally play GdeB in 15mm so I'm going to use Murawski Miniatures that were sculpted by Paul hicks.
http://murawskiminiatures.com/

I think I'm meant to have 6 x24 infantry battalions, a 4 gun battery and a unit of Krakaus
I've made a start but I'm going to produce them as units of 36 rather than 24 as that would be my normal default unit size for French & their Allies for my usual games

I thought I'd post the progress here.
I'd already painted 4 figures a few months back (IG 1V and 2F) but now I'm into the first unit in a singleminded way ( well after I've finished some nore 15s)
These are really nice figures to paint with virtually no prepping needed
The grenadiers ahve had a basecoat of colours and a wash, the highlights I think will wait until I get the whole battalion similarly covered

Hmmm that's a bit of an unfortunate badab black stain on one of those figs though  :o
the back figure on the right has already been completed to a finish previously. I did the otherr 5 last night

Having a go at the Voltigeurs next, again with 1 finished almost a year ago
I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colours. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns. - Winston Churchill

Bonjour,

These do look good and your painting style certainly does the figures justice.

Have been tempted by these figures myself but can't buy any until I reduce my unpainted lead pile so very pleased that you're supporting Murawski Miniatues instead.

I look forward to hearing how quickly you manage to get them all painted and based.

Cheers,

Paul

Great painting! I've gone so far as to order a couple of test figures and they are beautiful. Like Paul, though, I've got a tremendous backlog of stuff to work through before I can embark on anything new.

I'm currently Blucher and Bernadotte (boo, hiss!) in a Leipzig game, but we're playing the latest version of Kevin Zucker's "Napoleon at Leipzig" board game.

They are really nice mate. Is this game happening at Call to Arms?

Thanks gents
@ Brian No - I think call to arms is in August, this event is taking palce on the first week of October

Ok the next batch that have had their initial coats and wash, I'll highlight them all when I think I've finished 2 battalions
First of all the Voltigeurs

The the fusiliers, there's a nice variation of poses in these

Bit of a close up

Now some of the command and sappers

Finally onto the next battalion, I made a start on the fusiliers yesterday but have decided on blue trousrers this time

Roger and Paul's figures are lovely, aren't they ? I have six battalions of these myself and they're beautiful sculpts. Need to order another couple more from Roger when he releases his firing line infantry so I can field a full eight battalion division for 1813.

Ditto what Arthur says....great sculpts from Hicksie and wonderful figures overall...a wonderful one-man financed project that everyone is encouraged to support! :D

Hi Brian
I'm just taking part and know little of the organisation but I could send you the organisers e mail address. I don't know if they are looking for players still
Pm me your e mail address and I'll send you the blurb I have
(Where in NZ are you? I'm in Tauranga)

Thanks for the kind comments gents- I'm not far off completing another 18 fusiliers

Speaking of Murawski Poles, Roger has just posted pics of the greens for his next release (a few additional GDW infantry and casualties, plus the Vistula legion) :

All miniatures obviously sculpted by the indomitable Paul Hicks (note his trademark red background). Roger says the figures will be available in a few weeks.

Progress so far is nowhere as advanced as I'd hoped
Have finished 2 and a half battalions of 36 figures and just started basing
Thought I'd base a little differently this time , just doing 3 figures at a time in a base of 6
Normally I get really impatient by this stage and flood the base with PVA just after having glued on 6 figures
This time I've glued on 3 and the following day flooded 1/2 of the base with sand/grit mix and will do the other 3 when I've finished this post

1st battalion 1st regiment

I decided to paint the 2nd battalion of the first regiment in a slight variation with blue trousers, it was certainly a bit quicker

This is the first battalion of the 8th regiment with nice pink facings for a change
I've only painted 18 fusiliers so far and will paint the 2/8th with a slight variation. I thought I'd use all the figs with full shako cords for this one and maybe do the 2nd/8th with more of a mix and campaign look

Thinking about it I might give the faces a wash with a W&N ink as I think the highlighting I've done is a bit too subtle - I can never seem to get it right

I'm seeing Polish infantry in my sleep at the moment  o_o

I've managed to finish 3 x36 infantry battalions and now another 3 x 24 battalions. Because I only need to field  them at 24 fig strong for Leipzig and now of feel under pressure time wise I've decided not to paint the elite companies of these yet but get on with the artillery, the mounted command and krakus so I ensue I get to Wellington with my allooed force. There have been major distractions at present trying to get the house ready for sale. I have another 2 weeks and a few days before I leave for the trip to Wellington as we're spending a few days in the wineries of Martinborough beforehand
The infantry as it stands

2nd battalion 8th Line (The first battalion have pink facings)

1st Battalion 15th line

2nd battalion 15th line

Some of the foot artillery, they've only had 1 coat and a wash so far and are due their highlights this w/e

I started on some horses 2 days ago and hope to get quite a bit done this w/e
