Had a fantastic time. A bus load of re-enactor types turned up (in an old red bus) all dressed up in 40s garb. Some Home Guard and RAF types, ARP and a copper, plus civvies including some glamourous ladies, land girls, and a spiv. There was even a guy in a moth-eaten fur coat and battered straw boater pretending to be Bud Flanagan. They were all part of some 40s weekend on the Severn Valley Railway and had spotted that this film was on. It fitted their theme so they all came over mob-handed. Really added to the atmosphere and they were a nice bunch. One even was dressed up as a 40s usherette with ice cream and whatever.
And they have done a grand job restoring the place. Oozing 30s atmosphere, and gorgeous murals of what I guess is meant to be the southern Italian coast inside the theatre itself. I remember those years ago (I guess they date right back to the 30s), but they are in lovely nick now.
Best thing is, the Regal sells booze in the foyer and they let you take it into the film with you. That's what I call bloody civilised. Beat that if you can, Multiplex! (you cant)
