Painted Star Carrier

Hi, I painted this carrier to tabletop standard for my games of 5150 Fighter Command. It's big and very cheap and I think it looks great next to Silent Death fighters.

Out of interest, has anyone bought any of the 180 Yen kits from HLJ? I do love these ships, but they are waaayyyyy to big to use with my other stuff.

I've built several, and owned several more that I didn't build.
They are quite old, originally released in the 1980's, I think.  They are "fit the box" scale, so whether a fighter or a dreadnought, the completed models are all somewhere around 3-4 inches long. Details are sharp, the fit of the parts is not always 100% perfect, but usually pretty good.  Sometimes you get an extra little 2-3 part bonus kit, like a small (1 inch long) fighter or shuttle. Overall, decent little kits considering how long they've been around. 

EDIT: Sometimes they have some fine details like antennas or gun barrels that could have potential breakage issues if used as gaming pieces.

Thanks for that info. They sound the perfect size, and the perfect price (bar the fact that I'll need to get them shipped over from Japan!).

Really impressive, Blacksmith!

I know Leland Erickson, one of the fellows bringing back Silent Death, has also said they look good with the fighters, so you are in excellent company there. 

He announced the easy-on-the-pocketbook prices on TMP a while back.

Assembly is pretty straightforward, but I will warn that some have a LOT of little detail. If you are all thumbs, such as moi, you will be wise to watch for anything that looks like it has a halo of fins on it's snout. I think some of the 'smaller' (As in class; size IS pretty constant) earth ships were bad this way.

Also, while length is fairly flat across the series, bulk varies enough to give some variety.

Most of my collection, really. Shame, that.

Of course, there are reasonable prices on the larger kits, so you could go for 'near scale', have one or two big boys static on the table, with smaller ships buzzing around, and clouds of fighters, burning noiselessly in the aether, the cries of...
