When posting pictures of my Pirate Town on the Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts Board (
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=55071.0), I was asked about the Market Stalls I had built. I offered to do a quick tutorial so here it is. A word of warning however my work is not up to some of the standards I have seen on the LAF boards so I am sure that others can improve on my offerings.
First the components- a 80x80mm piece of 3mm MDF, bamboo sticks cut into 6x60mm and 2x70mm lengths, a small length of balsa to act as plinth (mine is 60mm), a small ball of twine, a small offcut of suitable material for the awning (I used an old shirt) and some market goods. I used some resin model from Ainsty castings.
First drill holes to take the upright poles. These are 20mm in from the front and back and 10mm in from the sides.
Then glue in the 4 uprights (60mm lengths)
Then add the cross timbers with the 2x70mm forming the front and back and the remaining 2x60mm the sides. I used some clamps to hold the crossbeams in place while they dried.
Then glue in the plinth just behind the front row of uprights. I wanted the goods to be seen from the front but still be under the awning. I little trial and error will get the right position for you.
At this stage I added the gravel as later it becomes more difficult.
Then I gave the model it's base coat. I use Dulux Chocolate for the earth whilst the wood is painted GW Rhinox Hide.
I then drybrushed the earth with coats of Delicious, Pecan and Toffe Cream also from DULUX and the wood with GW Dawnstone.
At this stage you should tie the twine around the frame to simulate the rope ties and glue them in place. You can give these a drybrush to pick out the colours if you want. I missed this out and had to go back to it and you will see them in later shots.
I then painted the market goods. Apologies for the out of focus shot but I have a mix of Watermelon, Lemons and Fish
Next add the goods and glue them in place on the plinth so that they angle forward.
Next cut out the awning. The front and back should be long enough to fold back under and be glued in place and the width should fit in between the lateral posts.
Finally glue the awning in place and add static grass or other covering of your choice and you have a completed market stall.
Hope you found this useful
