Hello!

I´d like to show you some Spanish Civil War miniatures which I got at Crisis. Unfortunately, I only really looked at them once I got home, so missed the chance to buy a whole "starter force" without having to pay postage, but who cares - now I´m just selling off some old terrain pieces to make the money.

The manufacturer is Anglian Miniatures, which already offer International Brigades, various Nationalists, and Russian and Italian tanks.

The figures are nicely sculpted, well proportioned and paint up really well, too, even though I failed abysmally at my attempt to paint them to a standard close to Tom´s awesome BoB Chinese... I first want to build a Republican Force, then add some Nationalist Opponents.

I shall be writing a generic "Interwar" rule set and army list based on Legends of the Old West and The Alamo to use the figures.

Now for the pictures:

1. Unpainted, based onto 24mm washers (closest to 25mm I could get at the DIY market, and the difference is negligible).

2. Painted and varnished. Unfortunately, the mattcoat didn´t fully break the gloss sheen this time, but I´m not that picky with slightly glossy models.

Great models, and, as said, I´ll get more of them once the Wolfenfels minis are painted.

Hi,

those look great.
That was a quick paintjob. Crisis was...ummh  :|
Saturday ?
Interesting that you complete the base first before you paint the Minis.
I like them.

I base first, too.

Jawoll, you may call me Chris, Blitz Painter! :D

I pre-based them this time because I wanted to paint them in one go. It usually depends on the type of miniature. My WW2 Germans, for example, are always based after painting.

The main advantage is that once the minis are varnished, I can directly go for the base. Also, I find it easier to clean up overspills when basing the raw miniature.

@Keyan Sark: Thank you VERY much for the links! I´ll bookmark them right away. I plan on getting the Osprey book(s), but until then, they will be very helpful, even if my spanish is... ah... nonexistent beyond "tacos, tamales y chili con carne, por favor".

I´m also relieved, because I was afraid the Khaki was too light. But I want to give the Brigades a slightly irregular look by using various khakis and brown-greens for the uniform basecoats, and I guess that uniforms losing colour would be rather usual, especially during summer months?

Very nice. Always wanted to get into gaming this one, much more evocative and emotional for me than most of the stuff I game. In which case perhaps it's better that I don't.

No... Must resist new... gaming period...

I can help you with any trouble you may have with those pages...
This topic, for instance, can be very helpful

Note that the republican irregulars use to wear working clothes, normally blue or black. Republican regulars used brown-ish uniforms, and Nationalist used green-ish.

Oh, and that "taco, tamal and chili" thingy is not real spanish... It is PULP spanish!

Thanks for the link, that´ll prove really helpful. I had already procured some sources (for example the MW Guide to the SCW) which listed Rep uniforms as anything from Khaki to mid-brown... great for variety, and yet, it´ll look like a coherent force.

I had almost imagined something like that... :D and the most amusing part of that is that the stuff that I get in the hispanic restaurant around the corner usually comes as a pulp, but tastes well... We all got our pulpadelics.

What is the correct term for Chili con Carne, or is this even a Mexican thing? And could it be true that Mitsubishi didn´t sell the "Pajero" SUV in Spain because it means a rude thing which I won´t dwell on here?

Indeed it is!

"Pajero" is a guy who does the kind of things Onan liked (so, if there are any kids around at least they'll have to research a bit   ). The car was named "Montero" in all spanish countries...

Ah, the languages...!

I couldn´t find the term in spanish dictionaries (and the latest one at my library has a GALLEON LOAD of insults and rude words in it!), so I couldn´t be sure if it was for real or just an "urban myth"...

Lovely sculting from Messrs Hicks strike again (great paint job too). I have most of their moderns and they are just as nice.

If you are into SCW have you looked at the FOA figures and vehicles range? they are compatible too

they only have a PDF catalogue so far but they have some lovely vehicles in the range. Both of these companies work together on the ranges....which is nice :)

Yup, I´ve seen FoA, but the few pictures I´ve seen of their miniatures don´t capture my mind as do the Anglian minis... the vehicles are very nice, indeed. But I´d like to get a collection from a single manufacturer once rather than my usual hotch-potch affairs.
