Bolt Action Batrep - Waffen SS vs Brits
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:41:42 PM »
As it says in the title. I thought I'd give one of these Batrep/AAR thingies a go seeing as its what all the cool kids are doing nowadays. Anyway it was a 600 pts game between my regular opponent playing out the demolition scenario. We managed to play out the game all the way to turn 5 before any small arms were fired, primarily because we spent all our time out thinking, out manoeuvring and generally trying to do that tactic thing to each other.

Anyway here's a few pics of the action, the full Batrep is on my blog http://offtclub.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/bolt-action-quick-and-dirty-batrep.html

Enjoy

Nice report on the battle.
Thanks for the review of Bolt Action.
Am on the fence about buying them,
as I have a number of WWII rule sets already.
Also enjoyed looking over your blog.

I have to agree, great battle report.

As for the rules, you already have the models. So a rule book and some national army books would be all you need. Unless you needed to add extra stuff to your armies or the special orders dice (which are not needed to play). What is nice is the rules are good, not very heavy in detail but fun and easy to play to enjoy the flavor of the game and the historical aspect more than heavy on realistic rules. Best saved for other great wargames in that context. Still, worth a try...

Cheers fella's

The rules are worth a punt, you can pick up the main rules for less than £20 ( not sure how that equates to Dollars, Yen, Rubles or Malagasy Ariary but you get the idea)  and the order dice mechanic  is a nice little idea.  I'm tempted to use the system for interwar or pulp gaming.  Not sure the game works beyond 1000 pts ( the points are similar to another game system produced by a not so small company however considering the authors its not surprising)  which is roughly a  full strength platoon,  support weapons and maybe an AFV or two.   I'm happy to keep my games small and use other systems for larger games.

Our club is currently planning a  campaign day so I'll be testing out the scenarios for that soon so their should be a few more batreps  coming up.
