Pulp Alley Childboard?
« on: 24 July 2013, 08:23:43 PM »
These rules have been so well-received, and had so many AARs, articles and scenarios published, is there any chance of a childboard?

I have to admit that I'm not really familiar with the purpose of the Child Boards, but I certainly appreciate your support, Joroas.

THANKS!

Well, Dave,  .45 has its own Childboard, but no one has posted there in 2013.  PA, on the other hand, seems to generate a lot of post, it would be nice to move it all into place.

Oh yes, I see what you mean. It would make it easier to sort through stuff.

Send Hammers a PM and ask - it makes a lot of sense to have child boards for specific games that generate  a lot of chatter!
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Sure Pulp Alley is hot at the moment, but who knows about next year (remember that childboard on Atomic Café 57). Please don't subdivide the board too much.

This. Look at the rather dusty state of the .45 Adventures sub-forum.

Don't pull a TMP and create sub-forums just to have them.

Gotta say, I'm not keen on the child board idea. It seems to me it takes a "good game/idea" and shuts it away where it eventually gets forgotten. I think this happens because new LAFers look at their preferred area (let's say pulp) and they look at what's happening and what's new. If Pulp Alley is taken off the main page it will just be out of LOS of newbies and it will soon just die off.

No Child Board say's I.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Plus, at the moment that child board would have three or four times the posts of the main board!

I agree to leaving the Pulp Alley on the main forum. I often forget to check the Child Boards...

And why are they called "Child" boards? Because they were spawned off of the main board? Or some other reason...?

Yup, in a tree data structure (what forums use) each node can have child nodes, then a node who has children is called a parent node in regard to the children.

Personally I don't think a child topic is necessary until over half of the new posts regard that topic.  Out of the front page pulp posts there are about 7 with pulp alley in the title.

I forget to look at child boards. I honestly didn't know that Workbench had a 'How To' board until it was suggested one of my threads was better off there.

In some cases a child board can have just as much regular traffic as the parent board.  The Strange Aeons child board within the Call of Cthulu parent board has been a high traffic board since it was created about 3 years ago.

It also provides a great way for all the relevant threads to be in the same place.  There are certainly enough Pulp Alley threads and interest to justify it currently, as several others have pointed out.

I think it is up to Mr. Hammers and the Pulp Alley community if everyone wants the Pulp Alley stuff together in their own child board or leave it as is, mixed in with the rest of the Pulp.  Either way I don't mind, I know where to find it.

I'm actually thinking about closing the .45 child board and moving the topics to the main one.

So I wouldn't like to be too quick creating new ones. We will see but not at once for sure.

In case the powers-that-be ever consider this idea again, I’d just like to make it known that I have no interest whatsoever in moving the Pulp Alley topics to a “Child Board”.

THANKS
Dave
