Sewers of Redpoint 179
« on: July 30, 2013, 03:40:39 AM »
I've been jonesing to break out Metagaming's Melee and Wizard again, so tonight I was home alone, cracked open a beer and brought Dark City Games' Sewers of Redpoint off of my bookshelf. I was having so much fun I figured I'd share the joy. Here's one of the encounters:

Megan the Fey-touched, her courtly lover Sir Templar the Rock, loyal henchman Johannes de Ogga, and the mysterious archer Syvarris the Half-Elven delve deep into the Sewers of Redpoint...

Three vile cultists attempt to kill the heroes with crossbows. Chanting an infernal prayer to their horrid god, they are granted supernatural aid in reloading their crossbows.

The forces face off.

Fearing the bars of the enemy, Sir Templar the Rock courageously steps forward to cover his lover's advance! He triggers several evil runes that suck at his soul but he grits his teeth and resists the magic.
Syvarris the Half-Elven feathers one of the cultists.
The cultists concentrate their return fire on Syvarris. His magical ring helps deflect four of the bolts, but two penetrate his thigh and shoulder.
Megan calls on her fairy godmother, who protects her with fey magic.

The heroes continue their advance, Megan stepping forward and summoning lightning.
Syvarris kills one of the cultists with an arrow to the throat.
The remaining cultists split their fire between Syvarris and Megan. They miss the Half-Elven, but strike the fey-touched with double bolts.
But her spell protects her! The bolts reverse their flight and strike the cultist! She follows up the surprise with a bolt of lightning!

With two of his companions dead, his god abandons the final cultist. He stands fast, hoping to kill at least one of the heroes before he joins his companions in infernal service to his vile god.

The heroes continue their relentless advance.

But before they can reach the cultist Syvarris cuts him down.

That looks like FUN!...I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Battle Report was a FINE read; AND the minis & game board looked suitably FANTASTIC.

I hope you have the opportunity for another round soon.
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

I'm very happy you enjoyed it! I'm home alone so I played again this morning. The thrilling conclusion...
(warning, spoilers ahead for the module if you plan on trying it)

The Heroes track the cultists down to their final lair, where they find a Priest of the Worm God performing an unholy ritual to summon his slimey deity. Knowing they have less than a minute before the Worm God devours all of Redpoint (and perhaps beyond), they spring into action!

Syvarris the Half-Elven, Sir Templar the Rock, Johannes de Ogga, and Megan the Fey-Touched in battle formation.

Cultists of the Worm-God and their vile priest Hastus.

Battle stats. The heroes are unwounded but Megan is still weak from the fatigue of the previous battle. Sheet courtesy of David O. Miller.

Knowing they're running out of time, the heroes rush forward. Johannes stands protectively before his liege's lady, Megan the Fey-Touched. Sir Templar is slowed by his heavy plate armor. Syvarris lines up a perfect shot on the vile priest with his longbow.

The Cultists form a protective ring around their priest and the altar.

Winning initiative, Johannes charges a cultist and splits her skull with his Pole-Axe.
Megan seperates herself and takes the far flank, hoping to summon lightning and kill Hastus the priest.
Sir Templar the Rock trades blows with another cultist, forcing him back under a flurry of sword-swings.
Syvarris lines up two perfect shots on Hastus and lets loose his quarrels. The arrows fly true but then vile magic reverses their flight! One penetrates Syvarris' chest, the other splits the shaft like Robin Hood. Syvarris is slain by his own accuracy.

Megan uses the last of her magical energy to summon lightning. The priest convulses in the electrical current and his ritual is ruined! Vowing revenge, Hastus draws an evil knife!
The two cultists who tried to intercept Megan before she cast her spell miss with their swords.

Johannes knocks down his opponent with a might overhead chop.
But Sir Templar has less luck with the big cultist he's fighting with.

Exhausted, Megan tries to withdraw from combat while Johannes finds himself outnumbered three to one!
Sir Templar worries about his courtly lover but is forced to focus on his own enemy.

Megan is stabbed by a cultist before she can escape. She is not slain, but she is so fatigued that she falls unconscious. The cultist, mistaking her for dead, attempts to step over her but trips!
Johannes runs Hastus through with the point of his Pole Axe. Cultists hammer his enchanted elven helm with a rain of blows that make Johannes weak in the knees.
Sir Templar finally puts his enemy down.

Johannes falls under the relentless blows of the cultist. The loyal man-at-arms is slain!
Realizing he is alone, Sir Templar the Rock jumps over the body of a cultist in preperation for attack.

Surrounded by the dead, fate smiles on Sir Templar as the charging cultists trip and fall.

They rise to their feet and hammer on the white knight. One draws blood and Sir Templar winces with pain!

Knowing that Megan will be captured and sacrificed to the Worm-God if he falls, the brave knight stands fast!

The knight cuts down one of his foes and evens the odds.

Eventually, he prevails. Bloody and beaten, Sir Templar the Rock has nevertheless lived up to his name!

But, his heart remains heavy, knowing he must bury two stalwart companions (and create two new characters!) ;)
