Varnish Nightmare - Amazing Escape
« on: 19 August 2013, 09:22:16 PM »
Having just finished painting a figure I impatiently held it at arms length and gave it a blast of matt spray varnish as I wanted to photograph it.  You guessed it, white frosting :(  Not just frosting either, it looked like I had hit it with white primer :-[ :-[

In shear desperation I poured a cap full of Johnsons Klear and dunked the figure in. I fully immersed it and to my absolute delight the white frosting completely disappeared (dissolved?)  :) :)  Happy days  :D

I was already a fan of Klear but now I really love it  :D

What is "Johnsons Klear"?

Apologies, it is an acrylic floor polish widely used by plastic kit modellers.  Humbrol now do their own version of it too.

Ah, ok - is it permanent when dry etc?

Gloss, Satin, or what?

I've been trying to find the Johnson equivalent here in the states. They don't sell Klear here.  :D
Would it be possible to post the ingredients listed on the bottle? I'm sure we have the same product here just with a different name.

I believe it is actually a US product re-named Klear for the UK market.  You need to look for "Pledge" floor finish as they no longer use the original "Future" brand name.

Ah I found it they have changed the name yet again. They are now calling it "Pledge® FloorCare Multi Surface Finish."

Thanks Svennn!

They don't make klear anymore either. I think it's also changed to pledge, and I don't think it's quite the same formula. But don't quote me.
