Generic "Lego" sources on the high street?
« on: 21 August 2013, 09:26:47 PM »
I find myself in the position of needing to build some fortification walls really quickly- as in by 31 August- and I tell you what, I remember seeing loads of bags of cheap generic building blocks for sale EVERYWHERE until the instant I decided they were my best bet and to look for some.

Does anyone know of bricks and mortar traders in the UK that sell this kind of thing?

Some of the pound shops occasionally have  bricks.
Otherwise charity shops or car boot sales.

Where are you based?

Just up from Newcastle upon Tyne. I've checked my local poundshops to no avail! I'll make a run on the charity shops as soon as possible- I'd totally forgotten about them, which isn't like me at all!

The Works bookstore usually has some Mega Blocks sets. There used to be one in the MetroCentre.
There are a few independent toy shops round here, also seaside gift shops, but not familiar with Newcastle.

Another option is papermodelling.
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fpm/archive have a 3-story city wall (and associated towers, gatehouse and hoarding)
The walls are just rectangular boxes so easy and fast to build. And the files are free.

Fastolfrus, good call, I found a big box of not-MegaBloks for £3 at my local charity shop!
