IHMN Game: Night of the Bloody McGuffin
« on: August 24, 2013, 05:59:36 PM »
Our second or third group get together for In Her Majesty's Name. Everybody seems to be having a good time with the rules.
It was a Scotland Yard company vs Mercenary group using the British Rifle Company template. If I remember right both groups within a point or two of 250 points.

We played a capture the objective game. The Military Rifle as well as the Machine gun proved very effective when given a good field of fire. One of the objectives saw four retrieval attempts by the Constables blown to pieces by rifle and machine gun fire from the Mercenaries.

In the end the Long Arm of the Law wasn't up to the task when it came to the longer arm of the military.

What follows is a short series of tableau representing the martial frivolities. Take special note of the Yard's extremely effective "I'm waving my nightstick" defense when faced with withering rifle fire.

Doctor Watson makes off with one of the McGuffins while his companion , the Consulting Detective, gives covering fire. Holmes received a lot of attention from the riflemen downrange but bore it all like a pillar of stone. The term "Plucky Bastard" has become reserved for those characters that are easy to hit due to their low armor but impossible to take down because of their obvious "Love of Queen and Country".

The Mercenaries charge into the yard, which was defended by men from The Yard.

The Machine gun team and the rifles established good fields of fire outside the range of the Yard's carbines. This proved the decisive tactic in the game

Constables assay the situation before making several charges to recover one of the McGuffins in the open. It didn't work out well at all. Over the top of the wall you can barely make out the helmet plume of the Mercenary commander who is engaged in a hot melee with the Chief Inspector and one of his men.

In the end the Yard made it off the table with one objective marker and three or four survivors while the mercenaries held the other two and took small losses. So a decisive win for the military.

More games in the months to come are assured.

Thanks for looking

Definitely a different story in the winding alleys and byways our games frequent.  lol

Now that I think on it, though, there has been a fair amount rooftop sniper-y.''

Nice report. More cover required perhaps or a steam Black Maria?

Don't bring a baton to a gun fight?

Nice looking board and an enjoyable read.

Don't bring a baton to a gun fight?

Even if that 'baton' is an English All-Electric Truncheon?  :D

Honestly though the Scotland Yard company is more suited to the narrow alleys and stews of the East End than the open vistas of the English countryside.

Well done Col Skrapwelder for a fascinating report!

I ran the unlucky Scotland yard force.  Sherlock, The good doctor and the Sgt. survived.  The real loss was the chief inspector.  The rest were constables and there is always another batch of them.  The game was a lot of fun, but next time I want more terrain!

I do believe the lads may have a different opinion...

About what I said, but if you could just break up what you have, introducing more corners, and I think you'd get by.

I know, hard to do with mostly set pieces. But, wouldn't take too much added.

Don't want it TOO easy. ;->=
