DUSTERS

1930'S AMERICA, The first cases of 'dust pneumonia’ start appearing in the Midwest, the few people that survive are usually deformed and some exhibit strange abilities. The dust storms show no signs of abating, in some places the storms appear with no warning, ripping through towns and leaving them empty...no bodies, just buildings. Rumors of strange animals roving the plains, things that seem to be out of fairy tales and nightmares. The first photo of a wolf standing over a house is considered a hoax by most. adventurers and 'monster hunters' flock to the plains hoping for fame and fortune.
On the east and west coast the depression has left the governments in disarray and many people had headed inland to find work. this mix of rich eccentrics and desperate people include celebrities such as Howard Hughes and a young writer named John Steinbeck as well as a host of mystics, inventors and fanatics. On May 11th 1934 reporters trailing a caravan of families heading west witness the group attacked by locusts the size of horses. As the caravan tries to defend themselves three people come out of the sky and destroy the swarm. one is encased in a suit of mechanical armor and is nicknamed 'Tin man' by the press, the other two are dusters with extraordinary powers: a girl who seems impervious to all damage done to her and a man who can call down rain and lightning from the cloudless sky. The era of 'Dusters' had begun

this was a campaign idea I had several months ago, think it would make a good setting for .45 adenture/Fantastic worlds?

Now, THAT I liked. I am a big fan of Carnivale, but it is great how you add the Wizard of Oz to that mix.

That sounds like a great idea. Very original and it will definitely appeal to one of our brew (Illumisar loves the supers).

If I remember right the lightning guy was a native american and the hard to hurt chick was named Rosie and would grow up in our world to be a riveter ;). The idea for Dusters came to me while listening to a Robert Plant song, and I started to do a little research in the Dustbowls. Very interesting and strange stuff happened. the Wolf standing OVER a house came to me when I saw that great image of the old ramshackle house with a HUGE dust wall behind it. (check wikipedia for some great info)

I am moving to Massachusetts in about 3 weeks so I won't have to much time to create any terrain or figs (though "Tinman" looks ALOT like iron mans first suit). I would LOVE to create a "shared" campaign/universe with you guys though, any ideas suggestions to mix into the big old dust bowl?

...what lies at the center of the dust storms? how can a drunk preacher stop the evil that is coming? who are the Men in Black coats and Hats really after....

Sounds very cool.

What part of Massachusetts are you moving too?  I'm out in the western part of the state myself.

My wife(i.e the real woman of my dreams) and I are moving to Waltham and expect to be there middle of June.

I won't say I'm right near by (I'm in NJ), but being in Mass., you'll have to make your way down to Cold Wars and Historicon and take part in some of the games we put on.

I find the idea very appealing and I think I can contribute in some ways. I am a fan of Carnavale and have for that reason been on the look out for miniatures wagons and trucks suitable for a 1920-30 ambulating circus/freakshow/carnival/gypsy/tinker camp. While mine will be based in Europe I think it will be generic enough to fit in your Dustbowl setting.
