Chaps

Turin winter of 2005 (from memory).  11 players on the search for the gold of Alexander (Iskander), rumoured to have been lost in the Taklakaman desert in the 4th centruy B.C.  All this going on amongst the last death throws of the White cause, and a Basmachi revolt.  Wonderful stuff.  Most dastardly manouevre in the game (we always give awards at the end of the weekend), went to V.I. Blackwood (League photographer and master map maker) who assasinated his fellow Red (Red Ted) at a Bolshevik party assembly in Tashkent.  Despite making it hard to kill characters (he had to throw an 11 or 12 on two D6 and then a 1 on another D6), he fluffed both throws.  The winner was the German 'archaeologists' under Von Stauffenberg (if they were archaeologists then the allied invasion of Normandy in 1944 was a school trip), who then cleverly handed the treasure over to the British Museum in return for a significant reduction in German WWI reparations, hence heading off the subsequent unpleasantness of the late 20's and 30's and 40's.

Marvellous stuff!

You did.  Old Dixon (sculpted by Mark Copplestone) Tibetan fighting monks.  Kind of like Harry Krishna's with matchlock muskets and a bad ass attitude

Unbelieveably gorgeous as always. It is doubly inspiring since I am currently reading Mission to Tashkent!

Indeed! I'm positively green with envy here.

So much beautiful stuff! I never knew about the Dixon monks and now I very unreasonably want some.

Chinese fort was built by fellow Kriegspieler, Rodger 'Smirnoff' Williams.  On the curvy roof bits he says...."Use cardboard tube and cut out sections (you'll need a big diameter).  Then glue the ordinary string on to form the tiles.  Light wash of PVA and paint"

Hope that helps
