Message to Resistance on eve of D-Day
« on: September 15, 2013, 10:05:50 PM »
Not really a figure related question, but wanted to see if anyone can shed some light.

Can you chaps shed some light on the message sent to Resistance groups in France on he eve of D-day to signal them to start clandestine work?

I have some references saying it was "the dice are down" and some saying it was "the dice are on the carpet". Are either correct and if so why were they chosen?

It may seem trivial but I have an 8 year old demanding answers!!! If tried google but can't get a definitive answer.

Cheers

I guess You refer to this?

    Les sanglots longs
    Des violons
    De l’automne
    Blessent mon cœur
    D’une langueur
    Monotone.

announcing that the invasion would begin in the next 24 hours
but there were hundreds of other detailed messages many days before
