A Bit More of My Warlord Army
« on: 18 May 2008, 07:06:23 PM »
I have just managed to take some more pictures of my Warlord Army. I hope you like them.

It was a time of firsts on some of the later ones in caps. I tried the eyes 12 months after my first post. And the cap bands and collar tabs.

Yup, nice figs indeed. The base of the field gun, however, looks a bit untidy - did you cut it from corrugated cardboard? If so, maybe you should use some filler to hide those rather unsightly gaps.

Other than that, very appealing. I really like that blueish-grey tone of the uniforms and gun.

your absolutely right . Ran out of GW plastic bases, they don't do them any more. I will refill that cardboard and tidy up.

The grey is GW paint adeptus field grey (foundation) Codex and fortress grey I think.

You should try Litko Aerosystems, they do all sorts of different size bases.

I like them a lot.

Cool.

My tip for hiding the nasty edges when using cardboard as a base is: Masking Tape! Much easier than trying to fill in all those little holes with polyfilla or whatever. Then textured paint or the product you normally use as a basing material over it, and you usually can't see that there was ever masking tape there.

The base of my colonial hut is cardboard that has been treated this way:

It isn't really my tip, I got it from the GW Lord of the Rings magazine. Makes life a lot easier, though. I use this method a lot.

Yes, that one is a keeper, too! Unfortunately, with round edges, it gets a bit tricky, but it´s perfect for straights.

Yes, a little trickier. You just need to use small amounts, though, and it isn't too hard. It's more a question of patience than skill.

Obviously, the smaller you go, the neater the curve will be.

And when textured, it looks okay:

This was an early attempt. A gas bomb cloud for our Kong game. Could have done with using slightly smaller sections of tape really, then it would have looked smoother. But on the tabletop it looks fine. The camera is a harsher critic than the human eye.

Thanks guys for the tip.

I think seeing as I have based already that I will fill and paint.

After that I will use the masking tape idea cos its really good.

Heh.

In the spirit of using what is at hand, which is a talent all its own, I offer these two tips.

--I use some nice cotton twine and glue on round or irregular shaped corrugated base stock.

--Also I have cut the edge of corrugated base stock at a steep angle. Here I'm suggesting 10-12 degrees, as in scarfing a joint. Then Imerely apply the tape over the angle cut which now has a more 'flat' presentation. Finish per your design.

Very Nice figures; and the story generated by the pictures seem to indicate that the Warlord Chinese are invading Africa?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Well I'm sure it'll turn out.

BTW-that could be a fun thread, start with a pic, add a pic to generate a story. The pic would need to come from your own collection.
