Pulp Alley at the Brisbane Muster
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:19:56 PM »
Hi gents,

We played three games of Pulp Alley at the Brisbane Muster on the weekend. No reports, sorry, but a few snaps...

The first game had players racing to interrogate villagers at the local market.

Players deep in thought.

Our heroes advance.

The nefarious Germans

A gang of cultists approach.

My markers for keeping track of combats - lots going on here!

The second scenario saw the leagues aiming to find the location of the Red Terror and either prevent it rising or gain control of it.

The Metrobots in action.

All in all, we had lots of fun. The rules were a hit - players loved them and a number of bystanders sounded interested too.

Bill.

Awesome set up, buildings and board.  :-*

I'm going to shamelessly pinch those 'SPLAT' 'WHOOSH' 'N" 'WHACK' tokens idea. Pulp came before Batman anyway so it's not like their Gotham City.

The counters are a little on the superhero side, but still in keeping with the vibe of pulp I reckon!

Nice set of photos. Both the terrain and miniatures are very beautiful.

WOW! That looks awesome. Your buildings are really well done, with excellent texture and color/weathering.

The little stalls, tables, and a CART! If ya'll made those stalls and goods, I hope you'll show me how?

...but wait...

THEN you go and try to sneak a miniature Pulp Alley rulebook passed me... tisk tisk...  lol lol

Thanks for making Pulp Alley look AMAZING!  :-*

Egad, I'm sprung! My plans to sell bootleg microfiche of Pulp Alley have been blown wide open. Back to the day job.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, gents. I stole the rules idea from Anpu's post apocalyptic table. And the buildings were certainly helped along by your building thread, Dave.

The stalls are matchstick and balsa wood, with the cloth soaked in wood glue. Stall goods from Steve Barber: http://stevebarbermodels.com/ A little pricey, but very nice. I filled 5 tables and probably have enough to do 5 more. Cart is a balsa wood job, with 1/72 Napoleonic artillery wheels.

I should also point out that the Germans and the Metrobots were painted by Kevin (checked shirts in the photos) and the cultists were Mark's. As befits a lurking mastermind, he never quite made it into the snaps!

Most excellent. Love your table, your buildings, and all the details. We haven't played with more than two players at a time yet. Gonna have to fit that in soon.

Bill -- So what were the counters marking? Activations? Fights? Injuries?

Sweet! I had not thought about using cloth like that. Great idea! ...for me to steal.  :D

Looks like Kevin and Mark are top-notch painters as well.

THANKS

Jet, I like it better as a multi-player game than just a two-player. There's more uncertainty and agonising choice with the use of Initiative. Also more spanners in the works with multiple people throwing out Fate cards.

Dave, we used the markers for fights. With five players trading shots and blows it can get a little confusing to keep track of everything. To keep track of activations, we print our character cards double-sided. One side's in colour, the other is black and white. Activate your character, flip your card. You still have all the stats there, but you can see at a glance who you've activated. Particularly handy for the big horde leagues.

Bill.
