Some scenery for the 'Book of the Astronomican' campaign
« on: 30 September 2013, 02:43:35 PM »
Do you remember the 'Chapter Approved. First Book of the Astronomican' campaign set released in 1988?

The first scenario requires an old generator plant converted by primitive locals into a temple. This was my first time using foamboard and I came up with this:

I intended it to look totally RT-ish, 80's style, so I used every bit of junk I could find.

When Orks invaded the planet, they desecrated everything and replaced the original head for a new one, resembling their own gods.
Using the illustration above as a guide, I begun to raise the statue to these amalgamated strange gods!

So this is the final result:

I still have to show some more cheap scenery (but smaller! ;))

Thats great :)

Did you play the campaign by any chance?  Its pretty complex and it requires a large number of miniatures IIRC, but you do have an ork buddha now...

Are you planning to make any other similar terrain from the campaign?  There is a fighting pit I think and and underground ork lair, and thats just for starters :)

Thank you everyone! As I said, I just tried to mimic that 80's atmosphere, half dark, half... naive, maybe?. No skulls, no gothic overdose, more classic sci-fi with dark details here and there.
I played the first three battles of the campaign, so I built some more small buildings, I'll post them over here too.
Unfortunately we didn't play the final battle, which was really great. :( Maybe if I build some more cheap junk scenery I can encourage a couple of friends to do so ;).

A wonderful, wonderful, wonderful piece of work. You should be very proud.

Have you considered using floor plans for the final battle?

You certainly did!
That looks bang on in a magnificent RT style way.

Kudos!

Thanks everyone!

Have you considered using floor plans for the final battle?

We didn't play the final assault :(, but if I were to play the campaign again, I'd consider doing some special things for it ;).

I have a few more things for you:

I'm quitting on minis, I'm gonna be a chef! ;D

When properly set, a bowl can be used in strange ways...

Strangely this metal bowl was even cheaper than a plastic one, so I just saw it and my RT mode imagination begun to design this shabby shack. Just trying to act in 80's style :P

I made these piles of garbage in the same inspiration

They don't look that bad when on the board ;)

I'll try to recover some pics of this campaign along the weekend, I believe I keep a few...
