A trip to the Vienna War Museum
« on: 03 October 2013, 09:11:21 PM »
On Tuesday/Weds this week I had the fortune to travel to Vienna on business. I had an hour free in the diary and headed off to the Vienna Arsenal.

Great visit and full of wonderful and very thought provoking stuff including...

The car that carried Archduke Ferdinand when he was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914

and a very famous piece of kit....

Yes, we can be pretty proud of the HGM (heeresgeschichtliches Museum), i highly recommend it. My favorite piece is the Lützen Letter of Wallenstein to Pappenheim, soaked in Pappenheims blood....

Vienna has some awesome museums. The Hof jagd und Rustkammer has a stunning collection of medieval and rennaisance weaponry. Or the Schatzkammer where they keep the Spear of Destiny.

I was in vienna for a week this time last year but tried to keep it a proper holiday for my wife...
Still, I got some good sculpting anatomy pics from the local statuary, animal anatomy from the zoo and plenty of art reference from the galleries. A good place for a mini sculptor to visit and pretty much my favourite place I've been all round.
Thanks for the pics, nice to see what I missed!  :D

Oh, and the Habsburg crypt was very "Warhammer" or should that be the other way around? lol
