Any playing Tannhauser?
« on: October 07, 2013, 08:05:02 PM »
Hey everyone,

Over the weekend I made an impulse buy (well, semi-researched impulse buy) of a user Tannhauser core game, revise rule book and equipment cards. I got them all for a little cheaper than a sealed copy of the current core game. I haven't had a chance to play yet, but found some cool mercenary cards online (using some figures from the Adventurers first game), and tons of scenarios. The biggest reason I picked it up was simply because I really dug the art style. I know I could buy Dust Tactics to get more figures, but Tannhauser seemed more appealing.

So I was wondering if anyone on LAF had created any custom stuff or even just if you play the game once in a while. I'd love to hear what you've got!

I never actually got to play the game much, but I did create a couple of customs. You can find them on my blog along with some other odds and ends. The blog hasn't been updated in awhile, so there are only a few posts in total, most of them about Tannhauser:

http://teumessa.blogspot.com/

The Mercenary customs that you mentioned were created by Miah. His blog now focuses on other games such as Dust, but started as a TH blog, so you can find lots of material in his archives:

Doc Savage Tales is a pulp blog, which used to have weekly posts about the game. As with Miah's site, there's a bevy of material if you want to dig through the archives:

http://docsavagetales.blogspot.com/search/label/weird%20war%20II

You can also check out the official FFG forums or, if you can read French, the Black Sheep Archives:

http://blacksheeparchives.net/

Or if you were interested in websites about the first edition of the game:

The biggest reason I picked it up was simply because I really dug the art style.

I'm also a fan of Tannhauser's style - both its art and original background story. I have mixed feelings about the later additions to the world. Some of it seemed really cool. I really liked the Matriarchy's (possibly) divine-powered armor. On the other hand, it sometimes felt like the designers were simply throwing the kitchen sink at the game.

Hi,

I'm a big fan of Tannhauser since the first days of the first editor TOY.  ;D
Sure you won't regret your impulse buy. And the equipement cards are very useful for the game play.

I have made only one complete custom (miniatures, equipements and stats) : a French Resistant to be intergrated in the Union. He is here http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?showtopic=37396

On the FFG forum, you'll find probably others.

Thanks for the replies folks. I ended up ordering a ton of Tannhauser stuff from Miniature Market because they had it on sale for around 45% off. The final few expansions that they didn't have in stock I can get locally for regular retail. In another week or so I should have a complete collection for the game, barring making up some custom character materials. I definitely think the Hellboy / BPRD one I've seen out there would make a good addition.

Once I get all my stuff sorted I'll probably post up some pictures. While it's definitely more of a board game, I think there are some good figures and concepts people can use in their other games too.
