Hi,

I'm ordering my xacto this week end, I will also ordered n11 and n10 blades as it was advised to me.

I'm still a bit confused on knife choice : I'd like to buy a #1 size, since I've got my OLFA cutter for heavy duty. But there is 4 (in fact, even more) diferent models :

#1 original
gripster
z-series
axent

Are they similar (time lasting, precision) ? Or do you have a preference for one model ?

thank you !

I recommend the Gripster. I've found the collet on the standard type grips can often loosen itself in the course of normal knife handling. Since the Gripster tightens at the back, it avoids this issue completely.

The con of the Gripster is the hollow barrel feels relatively insubstantial in the hand, and that can feel odd. Generally speaking, I've found that the normal-style all metal handles have a superior feel and build quality, but the Gripster is superior in actual operation.

Avoid off-brand versions of this handle type like the plague though, as the barrel will not always be centered relative to the blade/collet, and sometimes will be made of plastic that flexes.

History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Thank you for your very precise answer. I plan to buy a genuine xacto, maybe 2  lol I'm not sure if I will buy the gripster or the original.

My #1 is just fine. It does sometimes loosen but it was never a problem because I immediately notice it. The z-series is nice because of the color. I like the heavy feel and the knurling because I like old-school stuff.

I'll go for the classic one, or maybe the Z. Thank you both !
