We played out part 3 last Friday.
A short synopsis: After the fight at the stockade it became apparent that Ananais Dare, the leader of the colony was the root of whatever evil befell the colonists. Father George and Sir Philip were of a mind that he had been possessed by a Succubus or something similar. He was feeding off of the colonists and controlling them with the aid of a magical chalice that had been found on the beach. Much of this information was relayed in a journal recovered from the body of the colony's priest, Father Jacob.
A copy of the translated portion of the journal can be read here: http://rotanddrivel.com/journal.htmlIn addition to that there appeared to be another force at work. A band of Indians banished to the island by their tribe were reported to be practicing cannibalism and dark rites. If the journal of the priest was correct these natives had captured a score or so of the colonists in a recent raid. They were in all likelihood in possession of the chalice as well.
A chief of the Croatoan Indians, Manteo, had been to England and become good friends with Sir Richard. He and his scouts would help the company recover some of the colonists that had been captured in a raid by the cannibals. Manteo believed they planned to use the chalice and the colonists as a sacrifice to their evil god, known as the Dark Man, in an attempt to bring him to their world.
Ananais would have to wait. The primary concern would be the rescue of the colonists from the cannibals, doubly so since it was discovered that Eleanor Dare, Ananais' wife and her daughter Elizabeth were among those captured by the Indians on the island.

Guided by Manteo and his scouts, the company made its way stealthily to the cannibal village.
The unfortunate, yet inevitable snapping of a twig alerted the natives and Sir Richard and Marlowe found themselves beset by the fierce cannibals.
The Dutchman van der Gleek and his men quickly deployed in a line and began a steady production of musket fire.
All eyes turned to the totem pole at the head of the village. The shaman and his choice warriors were caught in the midst of sacrificing one of the colonists to their dark god. Manteo warned the company that the rite could not be finished if they wanted to survive the day with their souls intact.
The skies clouded over, a wind began to blow and the wretched colonist breathed his last in a shriek of terror. Swirling pools of what appeared to be blood began to seep out of nowhere to stain the earth crimson. There was a strange, fence-like structure in the middle of the village. Lashed to it was a pale hide with pictographs covering it entirely. As the pools of blood grew larger the hide began to glow.
Walsingham moved in closer to the structure, both out of curiosity and the cover from Indian arrow fire it offered. He was suddenly riveted in place as a voice coming
from within the hide seemed to call him by name.
Ghastly forms rose from the pools of blood. Some hideous ancestral warriors come to do battle for the shaman. Horrified by the appearance of these monstrosities some of the weaker willed Indians flee into the forest.
The revenants move quickly and silently into battle.
Thomas Walsingham, rooted in fear, clings to the strange fence and its hideous proclamation.
Marlowe sped towards the log house as he saw more cannibals come forth with what could only be a second sacrifice.
He was cut off by one of the native warriors before being able to effect a rescue.
The colonist was dragged screaming to the hideous totem where his brethren had just been butchered.
Sir Philip calls forth a wondrous light that shines on all. Giving heart to his men and weakening the resolve of the mortal foes.
The revenants are stalled, moving slower but with the same silent, deadly resolve towards the English heroes. Before the blink of an eye three of the company's men have fallen.
The second sacrifice has been completed as the cry of the dying colonist echoes across the field.
The air around the fence like structure where Walsingham shelters crackles and expands. A void in the air opens sucking the fence, and Walsingham, into a deeper darkness than any could imagine.
Thomas Walsingham is gone.Just as quickly as Walsingham disappears something else far more horrid leaps out. A hound from hell, baying and slavering.
The beast seems to be a piece of the night. It moves faster than the eye can see, crushing another of the men in its jaws. Fire from van der Gleek and the Kofie brothers grabs the monsters attentin. It turns to charge.
Sir Richard and one of his men hold more of the cannibals at bay. The tide finally looks to be turning in the company's favor.
The shaman goes down to musket fire. The void in the closes with a sigh and an audible "pop" sound.
Sir Philip calls out again, expanding the breadth and strength of his light. It appears to have a weakening effect on the revenants and most of the mortal natives are fleeing. A few holdouts remain and continue to fight to the end.
Weakened but still fighting the beast charges van der Gleek and several others.
With a massive blow Tatto Koffie cleaves fully through the monster. It shatters in a million pieces of darkness that scatter on the wind.
Marlowe finds almost a score of surviving colonists imprisoned in the log house, but no sign of Eleanor Dare or her daughter. Manteo is is strangely affected by the absence and begins questioning the surviving natives they have rounded up as to the whereabouts of the golden haired woman and her child. His news is grim, the Chief of the village quarreled with the shaman about sacrificing the woman and child. The chief felt they would be the best sacrifice owing to their station in the colony and their beauty. The shaman disagreed saying the child was the worst sacrifice. She was under the protection of the sea god and could not be harmed. The chief grew angry, taking the Dare women, and the chalice, he said he would take them to the forest and sacrifice them at the mounds of the forest giants and the god of the sea could do as he wished.
The company made quick to bandage their wounded and move on with as many as they could. Forest giants or no the Dare women must be rescued.
