How do you base your IHMN Companies?
« on: 27 October 2013, 02:22:02 PM »
Given the amazing variety of Companies, and the incredibly diverse nature of the landscapes and terrain over which the Companies operate, I was wondering what philosophy players are guided by when basing their figures.

In my case, the basing for a Company is determined by their natural habitat, so to speak. The Companies that are finished, Pinkertons and a London girl gang, I am using cobblestone bases, as they usually operate in cities. I have the Servants of Ra in the works, plus an archaeological Indiana Jones-type Company: these bases I will landscape with desert sand and rocks.

So what are your thoughts?

[There was a discussion of this topic on the Miniatures Page, I believe, but I don't think it's been discussed here. If so, I apologize for the redundancy.]

I was talking aloud to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to; the long explanations needed by the young are wearying.

Depends on the boards I'm likely to use them on. The majority of mine are done as city bases as those are the boards I've been doing lately. My US stuff however is done as dusty wild west type as that's the main set I'll be using them on. Won't bother me when they move between areas though :)
So many projects..... so little time.......

As with Dewbakuk the majority of mine are based on cobblestone and city bases. Some have tufts of grass, moss or leaves on them to break them up a bit and help them blend in with other environments such as cemeteries.
Don't!

Most of my companies will be designed to operate in European cities or countryside. I've therefore gone for a muddy road/earth effect for my figures, using GW Stirland Mud textured paint and drybrushed with Terminatus Stone. This gives a nice effect that should work for any location I want to deploy them in. Most bases are small (penny sized) so I'm not adding anything else to them. Larger bases may have bits added to them appropriate to the figure on the base.

Town vehicles will have cobblestone bases with added bits appropriate to autumn steets - newspapers, piles of leaves, maybe the odd bit of street furniture.

I do like the paint job you've done on Moriarty. That gives me a lot to live up to in painting mine :)
