How easy is Pulp Alley?
« on: 28 October 2013, 11:16:17 PM »
It's all there in the title. I'm a rules-challenged miniatures player (basically because I hardly ever play any miniatures skirmish games). I'd like to know how easy/intuitive Pulp Alley rules are to play. I have played Mordheim, Necromunda, and Supersystem, as a point of reference, but I wouldn't consider myself a heavy player of miniature skirmishes. I'm more of a hobbyist who enjoys painting, but wants to give some kind of pulp system a go.

Thanks,
Jan

I think Pulp Alley's pretty easy to play. We've had several 7-10 year olds play. There's actually already a post kind of like this-

You can also test out the rules by getting the free Pulp Alley - Quick Start PDF on Wargame Vault -

I hope that helps. :)

it's easier to understand than the GW rules IMHO.  there's no charts to look up as every 4+ is success; all the stats are on your roster list, what skills to use are on the cards; it's all straight forward.  my first couple of games with my 11 and 14 yr old boys, we only had to look at the rules a couple of times for some how to handle plot points, what to do for extreme perils, and a few minor clarifications.  i suppose in retrospect even then we didn't 'need' to do as we were having fun and could have just made something up; or i could have read the rules a couple more times.  PA is light on rules, heavy on fun/action.

I second the notion: PULP ALLEY engine can be grasped VERY quickly.

The rules are simple, but the more you try them, the more "dept" you find, and the more you'll want to change and try new abilities for your "other" gangs.

And if you already have played some GW games, I'm sure this rules will be a piece of cake, so you can concentrate in having fumn.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

I think most folks are going to look up a few rules the first few time they play. But Pulp Alley is really designed for folks to enjoy playing, rather than sitting around reading the rulebook.

In general, Pulp Alley offers an unexpected level of tactical options but still has very playable rules.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
