54mm North West Frontier - Desert Outpost

Started putting together scenery for my 54mm North West Frontier project.

First up is the old Airfix Desert Outpost:



Waiting for a desert cloth to arrive and also hoping that Amera will release a base for this kit like they have for the 1/32nd scale Strongpoint kit (which I also have..).

I've also started chopping up some polystyrene packaging for rocks and cover - this is the first piece so far - lots of talus and flock to be added...



I have 40 Afghans painted - 20 to go until we can play a game.  I painted a British Army for a friend earlier this year.

Mike - these are nice. Which make are the figures. I know nothing of 54mm figures I confess.

There's someone on the web who makes very convincing rocky outcrops out of mulch glued on to styrofoam and plastered over. I think he has a blog dedicated to the Battle of Maiwand and it's worth a look given your interest.

They are Armies in Plastic figures.

I have been drying out some Oak bark to try making a long cliff/hill to break up the battlefield.  I've seen the Maiwand site and his stuff looks great- though I don't have the space to store all that much stuff!  I am going to use his ideas to make Sangers on 1/2 CDs though.

Looking at your photos made me realize I have a Deseret Outpost also as well as a whole heap of Sudan AiP figures, now I know what my next Battle will be!
