Don't know if you are aware, the Red Star Chechen Wars range are now in the hands of Empress Miniatures.
The figures are very nice, but there is a noticeable size difference between early and late figures, due to a change in sculptor. Don't know where you are, but if you get to see them at a show you'll see what I mean; its like true 25's and 28mm.
I have some of the later Chechen figures and they are very nicely sculpted and paint up well too; going off the link below, the change in size is from CWC005 onwards; which doesn't give you much choice but its a start. I also bought the 3 packs of Insurgents from Empress to use as professional foreign Mujahideen with the Chechens and other Opfor's - undercover IRG commando's, Al Shabab or even 'Wolverhampton Wanderers' i.e. Islamic converts.
http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart44.htmI can't comment on the quality of the Russians, except for the support weapons which are very nice - the 14.5 and AGS are smaller but no-one does them in 28mm with 'Eurasian' crew so I held my breath and handed over the money.
For opposition I have loads of TAG Russians and MVD, as well as some of the more random figures from the TAG Organised Crime and Terrorists range to pad out the Chechens.
Hope this is of some help!
