'Almost Human' - good near-future sci-fi fodder
« on: 18 November 2013, 11:30:36 PM »
So, I've just watched this show and I was pleasantly surprised. Visually is mixture of Blade Runner (lots of neons everywhere) with new movies like 'I Robot'or 'Total Recall'.

In terms of story it's a bit like 'I Robot' - a detective that doesn't like androids has to work with a new robotic partner...and you can guess the rest. But it's worth watching just for the visuals.

Of course this made me want to work on some miniatures and for starters I'm going to work on some Police Support Units (PSUs). I'll use my old Heroscape Omnicron Snipers

And then I think I'll use old Heroclix Metropolis Scu

to represent the android partners for the Human detectives/agents. I'll try and paint them like the androids from the 'Total Recall' remake:

Isn't that the new show they advertise with the banner: "From the Rubbish Bin of JJ Abrahms"?

From his wallet, not from the rubbish bin, lol. He's just the producer.

OH! Ok... gotcha. Sorta like "Earth: Final Conflict" was from Rodenberry's trash can. ;)

IIRC E:FC actually had a few of actual Roddenberry ideas in it. I suppose this one indeed mostly just has the stamp of approval from the King of the Lens Flares and a base plot taken from Asimov's Caves of Steel o_o

All the same, I'll prolly watch it if it comes out on FOX Finland. They are busy flogging Walking Dead (a big hit locally) tho so maybe another genre show won't fit their plans.

Yeah, yeah. J.J. Abrams is a bad guy. Whatever. At least his miniatures come out in plastic rather then resin...

The show is actually pretty good. I notice no one has mentioned Karl Urban is the star yet, so I will.
So you got Karl Urban, Cyberpunk, Future Cops and Androids. What's not to love?
Then again, I liked I Robot, so my tastes may be suspect.

What Michka said. Time will tell, but I'm liking it so far.

Watched the 1st couple eps on the weekend. Why was Judge Dredd not wearing his helmet?  ;) Looked quite nice, reminds me a bit of many old sci fi ideas which is probably a good thing.

If Earth:Final Conflict came from his trash can, I dread to think where they discovered Andromeda lol

I think it's a great show so far. The main cast has a good chemistry, whilst I sometimes find the supporting cast somewhat cringeworthy (especially the captain, eek).

Other than that then I'm really looking forward to seeing more of it unfold before I pass judgement. At this point it could go either way.
