There's not just Robogear to consider: this pic is from a Steamblade I converted from a Mageknight Behemoth a few years ago by removing the spiked drum & adding wooden front wheels and an open topped armoured crew compartment with  a ship's device (I don't know what it is called) to order "slow, stop etc" to the engine room, a lighter gun (actually a 15mm WWI big gun...) and room for some infantry (there's a door in the front of the compartment, so they can charge out).  I tend to collect all sorts of plastic, metal and wooden bits: they all serve a purpose in the end...

:o :o :o WOW, Once again words fail me. There's too much talent bouncing around this forum, and none has found me yet.
 Congratulations on a great conversion.

Cheers

Thank you.  whilst being on the subject of using 15mm models & parts in 28mm games: this is one of my 28mm late 19th C steamers.  The hull and paddles are from a 15mm OG ACW model, the superstructure is scratchbuilt.  Fore and aft guns are again 15mm big ones, the heavier centre gun is a toy plastic taken from its carriage.  The vessel looks "to scale" but is at the same time small enough to navigate on "tabletop waters". The Schutztruppe is on guard...

The ship can be "converted" to become another vessel: the top deck housing and smokestack can be removed and replaced by another one to create a different model.  The deck housing is held in place by 2 large screws, so it cannot drop from the model whilst being handled.

Rudi

A German paddlesteamer "Messing about on the water" hé?  All very well sir, if you are about to encounter an Imperial German pocket battleship and fire a salute in honour and have Schnapps with the captain...

or even challenge an enemy gunboat your guns can (may...) match.

But it is a bit more difficult if the (enemy) vessel you encounter can launch torpedos below your waterline,

or punch a hole in your vessel with its ram, whilst your shot bounces off its armour...

Not to mention encountering a French cuirassé...

... or a British armoured cruiser for that matter.

No sir, NO, "Messing about on the water" is a very serious and dangerous matter indeed.  Be warned, sir, be warned!

Rudi has enough ships to rule the seas and here I am, only need one gunboat for Darkest Africa and I can't even manage that  :'(

Brilliant stuff!  :o

What rules do you use for them, Rudi?

I've got Breechloaders and Boilers from TVAG, but haven't got around to using them yet...... well ships are fairly necessary to use the rules, after all...  lol

Thanks guys, this is a true moral boost to continue!  Most of the ships are used as off shore artillery and have been constructed 3-5 years ago, as was my pirate games fleet (here are some (dreadfully off topic!), but there are many more, some large, some small...)

I even have built a (sort of...) full hull Black Pearl, but you should see the game "return to Cannibal Island" that goes with it (but that was nearly entirely Johan's doing, not mine):

(BTW, Johan is the guy in the governor's uniform, I am... the one making the picture!).

'nough said,

Rudi
