Where to buy Victorian Clothing?
« on: 23 December 2013, 09:40:40 PM »
I know this is not strictly wargaming, but can somebody please point me to a vendor (UK or Europe) of fairly correct victorian clothing?

I would especially like to find a black Inverness Cloak (preferably in wool), but I am planning to collect a full set of clothing to wear at special occations.  :)

I have found a couple of US vendors of Victorian and Old West clothing, but I don't like to pay the postage and import taxes  :?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Victorias' Secret?
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo

If you Google "Inverness Cape" then you get quite a few manufacturers/suppliers in Scotland but one that I looked at quoted about £600/$1000USD.

You could also try searching through a directory like the one below to find where re-enactors obtain their gear. Unfortunately a couple of the suppliers I was thinking of have ceased trading in the last couple of years  :(

If you're ever in London, I suggest going to Old Hat in Fulham  :)

Thanks guys, some of you are very helpful.

I also own a bullwhip  >:D

I am actually planning to have an inverness cape sewn of real tweed (with matching deerstalker), as soon as I have saved up double the amount, but I need some garments to wear under it... otherwise I might get arrested...  o_o

Search Past Patterns and Laughing Moon on Amazon or Google. Those 2 companies (and some others) provide patterns for standard Victorian and Edwardian clothing, such as trousers, shirts and frockcoats or sack coats.

OK, thanks. I'm not sure I can convince my wife of the necessity of her sewing me a(nother) set of historical clothes, but it's worth a try...  :)

Look for Glynis Hughs on facebook.
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I've gotten most of mine at local thrift stores, sure its not X cut of a vest, but hey it looks cool enough. Atleast on the upside us guys can do that, when it comes to the woman folk they have a harder time finding "something that looks close enough."

I think I've spent around $50 or so on atleast two complete outfits, plus a handful of mix match vests and pants. About the only thing I've special bought was my puff ties which I get from a friend. And a tux shirt, which had the right collar and size for me(which was only a few bucks on eBay).

Now my 24th Reg. of Foot jacket I spend a PRETTY penny on.....
