@Styx
Would you if Pulp City has the ability to make your own supers and vilians?

LGW

The KS is due to launch January 30th.

If it is successful, we will be looking to have a build your own set in the future: combining Supremes, Minions (henchmen types) and Monsters (think Godzilla, kaiju, giant robots etc.). :)

How easy are the rules for kids to use?
Could I use it with a 7 & 5 year old?

The reason I asked regarding making my own supers/vilians is due owning some heroclix minis and some Judge Dredd cultists.
If the international postage isn't to high I will be pledging for the $90USD level.

Looking forward to seeing what is on offer.

Hi Lord GreyWolf.

The build your own WON'T be in this KS, it will be a follow-up project at a later date, just to be clear.

Honestly, the rules may have too many things for kids at those ages to remember in-game. The cards we will be launching alongside the new edition contain around 90-95% of the gaming rules for each character on their own card, but that means a typical Supreme has around 4-8 rules plus the movement rules. My gut feeling is for a little older.

That said, the Pulp City build your own rules will have a building block approach which may be suited to kids of those kinds of ages with just a couple or so models per side.

In terms of comparison, looking at Malifaux 2nd edition they are comparable in the number of character-specific rules I think, so possibly the nearest analogue example if that helps at all. Sorry if not.

We are pitching to teens and up most likely I feel. Or at least teenagers in their 20, 30's and 40's... ;)

oh well back to the drawing board..

Will try and use my googling powers to see if I can find some rules that will give us a challenge, allow us to create our own supers/villains and be K.I.S.S that my kids can play it.

It's a bit cheeky of me to hawk one of my own rule sets on this thread, but Chaos On Cronos offers a simplified version of the SuperSystem mechanics, includes a small, but robust, list of special powers, and is available as a fairly cheap ($9.95 USD) PDF.

P.S. Just PM'ed you with an offer for a risk-free trial of the rules!

Hope this helps!

You might want to try these rules which are derived from a set of simple batman rules that I wrote:

can any one tell me if the Bash RPG would be suitable for my kids [7 and 5]

I can buy the basic version for $1.99USD but would like to know form some one who has played it what its like.

Can I make an evil team to battle my kids or is it GM/DM driven? or could it be used as a table top skirmish game?

cheers

I started my son on supers using Heroscape. There's the official MarvelScape box set, but you don't really even need that. There's 100's and 100's of free cards done by the Heroscape community. C3G does some great supers cards but some of them are a bit too complex for the age range of your kids. My friend Sherman Davis has done 100's of cards as well. His have simpler rules and are very playable. I've even designed something like 40 cards at the moment but have yet to post them.

All you need to do is get a hex sheet/matt to game on, download the cards you have figures for, and, if you need to, download the Heroscape rules. You can come up with an alternative for the order markers and dice. Heroscape is a simple game with endless possibilities.
