Essex 15 mm colonial pictures?
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:13:40 AM »
Essex 15 mm colonial pictures anyone?

So few (relatively) on company website makes me hesitant to buy these (found while looking for something entirely different.)

Gracias,

Glenn

Hi Glenn
Is there anything in particular that you are after. I have Mahdists, Egyptians and a few Brits. Would do me good to practice with the camera.

Well, I was thinking of adapting the Brits for "VSF larger battles Spanish" versus Venusians, (and almost certainly eventually, despite my best efforts, Martians,) and wondered if the figures:

1) Look good consistently.  Some lines by some manufacturers have shown me significant variation in quality of appearance over the years so yes, I am a bit paranoid - professional residue from occupations held over the years.

2) Have equipment that will need "deleting" or "modifying" with X-acto knife ansd or Green Stuff to look less specific so I can claim them as "Spanish Aether Marines" with a minimum of believability from the Grognards out there.

3) Won't look horribly out of place temporally (I set my VSF actions between around the defeat of the American Navy by Spanish Submersibles and Aeronefs in the 1898 Spanish-American War era resulting in America staying the course of the Monroe Doctrine and Spain rising on the international stage as a potential Major Player in world affairs.)  Since I doubt rifles are too noticeably specific in 15 mm sized figures I am not too worried about that but until I see pictures I can't refute the concern about support weapons and other gear.  I know I will need to add {see above} gas masks (Mars) and/or breathing apparatus (Venus) on the figures post purchase.

So, Brits (Sudan and Zulu wars) then perhaps Egyptians (as Venusian Askaris) would be my most wanted pictures.

I have reduced my ranting about pictures on manufacturers web site as I have grown older but it still happens at times...

Gracias,

Glenn

Glenn,

All the miniatures in this album are from Essex Miniatures 15mm Zulu War Range.

I have  quite a few Sudan British and Egyptian Troops as well, but wouldn't get the opportunity to photograph them for a day or so. They pretty consistent with the sculpting style of the Zulu War British.

I noticed Essex have started adding more photos of the various ranges to their site and hope they continue to do so. I remember the days of having to wait for a particular range to appear in a photo on the pages of magazines to decide whether to send an IRC or two for a catalogue and some samples...

I'll post some photos over the next day or so.

Barry

Glenn,

Most of what I have of the Essex Sudan British Range are already on the site.

Below is a photo of the Early Egyptian Infantry (OC31) -

And Later Sudanese Infantry (OC38)

All the best,

Barry

My experience with Essex is their ranges are remarkably consistent, even to the point of: if you have one range, you know the poses in all the ranges - more or less.  Quality has always been consistent and high with minimal flash to clean up.  Hard to go wrong with their figures unless you need greater pose versatility.

Most the figures I used in my Sudan collection (British, Egyptian, Sudanese and Dervish) are Essex 15mm.  I think they are great figures.  My collection was put together more than a decade ago and since that time other figures have become available (I thinking of the new Blue Moon 15mm/18mm; I'm sure I'd take a look at them if starting now), nonetheless, I'm still very happy with the collection I have.  No regrets.  You can see my collection at www.warin15mm.com/The-Sudan.html

Do you have enough info now or do you still need more pictures?
