Finished painting the crab today - here's a couple of pics of it in action (Wild West flavo(u)red VSF: Deadlands).  The camera doesn't really pick up the subtle metal drybrushing - it looks a bit better in real life, honest! :)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wish I had thought of putting pistons on the legs, but I'd already undercoated it :/

Now to make some other stuff!!  Quite addictive!

That sir, looks superb! And is that the BHS train I see in the background  :)

I too mix a bit of Deadlands into my Western stuff, it's members of the Deadlands game I'm currently running that I'm going to try and tempt over to the steam....

Thanks for the compliments guys, I really enjoyed making it.  Finding some golf tees at a charity shop turned out to be a real stroke of luck ;)

Dewbakuk - do you mean British Home Stores for the train?  I bought mine off ebay for about 12 pounds (inc shipping).  I put a link to the ebay store in the 'Wild West Iron Horse' thread on the Wild west forum.  That took a fair bit of work to make gameable, but was well worth it.  If they do sell them at BHS I might snag one - you can never have too much rolling stock?

We play wild West exclusively at the moment, but since I've found this forum I'm getting a real itch to expand into other territories and time periods (VSF 'proper' and Pulp) :)

Yep, British Home Stores. They sold them a couple of years ago as a christmas thing, came in a black box. brilliant sized trains but they didn't do it again this year  :'(

I've been on the look out for more so I shall now go and find the Iron Horse thread.....

Looks fantastic, and fits right in with your other robboty models.  It's amazing to look at the original multicolored scratchbuildbuild and consider that it could possibly turn into this.

That is outstanding.   YI wouldn't believe it was scratch built if not for the in progress shots.

And it fits in so well with those small robots (not sure what they are)

Did you scratch build those too?

Yeah, it did paint up well.  Thanks! :)

I wanted it to look like the little robots (I use them as automatons ;) ).  I suppose their stylings are a little closer to the 1940s or 50s, rather than 1880 odd, but they look fine with a cast iron and brass colour scheme.

I didn't make them (I wish I had, I think they are a great design).

These are the ones:
