Volkssturm for FotR (updated 16 march with log MG-bunkers)
« on: January 06, 2014, 01:20:32 PM »
I have started to paint up some Volkssturm to face my russian horde in the suburbs of Berlin. I have a full platoon of them but these are the ones I have painted up so far.

First squad

and the platoons HMG support

All of them are Paul Hicks BAM sculpts, a bit "rough" compared to his later sculpts but still fantastic miniatures!
Some of them are slightly converted, mainly the ones carrying panzerfausts, they have had their original weapon cut off, a new panzerfaust added and new hands sculpted. I've also added armbands on some of them.

And to support them

a Sdkfz 234/2 Puma from Warlord. Still needs shading and chipping and decals and weathering and so on.

But this

a Jagdpanzer IV L70 is almost done, just decals and weathering left.

I've got plenty of stuff on the painting table so won't be too long until next update!

I know its only the undercoat showing but white wall tires on a Puma look really cool.  lol

I have most of those early Paul Hicks sculpts and really like them as well.

Thanks! I haven't decided yet, I was leaning towards some urban rubble but I might just do something simple with sand and silflor. Basing is really my Achilles heel, I have so many units and armies which isn't based...

Haha, thanks for the heads up on the weels, I would have probably forgot that! :D
They are great, I have a few more hopefully arriving today to make up the other squads.

Great looking minis!!!

Thanks!

And finally, an update!

First, the jagdpanzer is done!

Quite a lot of dirt on it, trying to get that spring -45 look.

The Puma is also done.

and the second batch of Volkssturm is also done, except the bases. Once again old Bolt Action miniatures, Paul Hicks sculpts. A few greenstuff tweaks on these, mainly armbands and new hands to hold Panzerfausts with. They guy to the left in the first picture have had a headswap.

And there's plenty more on the workbench. These will also be Volkssturm although they look more like soldiers than civilians, I think they'll mix in nice with the rest. Most of them are also old Bolt Action miniatures, although a few of them are new Warlord sculpts. Anyway, more pictures of them next time.

Very nice - they look so tired.

Yeah I've seen them and I think they look great, but I have decided to use some Musketeer Miniatures for the remaining ones. They are also Paul Hicks sculpts so should fit in nicely.

Time for another update!

The remaining, more soldier-looking, Volkssturm! Most of them are old BAM-miniatures, but a few are newer Warlord ones (who I am not sure sculpted?)

And, to keep them in the fight, a Feldgendarme unit. Artizan sculpts, lovely miniatures.

I have also converted some anti-tank protection for my late war russians.

And I know, I really should start on some basing...

Sweet looking minis! I think you've done a great job dusting up the Jagdpanzer! And the infantry looks great too, even without the bases :)

I painted up a Volksgrenadier platoon too. All miniatures are from Artizan miniatures and they are organized for the Battlegroup rules.

The Panzershreck team

Squad MG42

There are some weird size differences between miniatures in this range.
