Mordheim warband, a work in progress...
« on: January 06, 2014, 04:08:01 PM »
Howdy everyone,
This is my first 'proper' post here so here goes.
Im not much of a gamer, I was turned against gaming with the 2 people I used to game with because one was a bad loser and an even worse winner so gaming became a chore instead of fun.

I do however still really enjoy modelling and painting and so I am in the middle of making and painting a mordheim warband.

First off I wanted the band to hail from Bogenhafen of the empire so I went with a purple and white colour scheme, I also wanted ALL of the miniatures to have bases that had their names on the edge and be fully detailed, so I went through the old bitz box and pulled out some old textured plasticard from various model railway projects that I have since finished. i cut these to size and glue them onto 20mm bases from games workshop and painted them accordingly. Here is a few photo's.
These are some of the bases...

My first 'objective marker'

The first 2 recruits to be modelled and painted, Madock (he will have a halberd soon) and Ludwig, a marksman.

Ill add better photos and a warband list tomorrow as my camera is quite dated haha.

Hope you enjoy  :)

Welcome to LAF! Love your objective marker, it's pure Mordheim kit-bashed goodness. Your bases look great and Madock in particular is full of character.

Keen to see how this project develops (and whether you get a game in one day or not). Best of luck!

Hello!

Very creative objective marker. Nicely done.

Howdy again, Thanks for the kind comments everyone. As promised some more photos.

First up Logan, the merc captain. I saw the model and HAD to get it (so I got 2  ::) ) I wanted the war band to be led by a warrior priest but didnt like the witch hunters ( the only band to have the priest) so used the mercenaries rules instead.
I like to add a lot of fluff and background to my characters so Im sure Ill pop it up here once done too haha.

Next up is the finished Madock, i liked the idea of a small group of halberdiers, collectively known as Logan's Hell'berdiers, more on the back story for these to come (but they are the remnants of my empire story-wise)

This is a close up of Ivatts base, I used a piece of an n gauge model railway kit for this one that had a window in that i thought would look like a sewer grate you see  ::)

I am trying to start a mordheim campaign at my local games workshop but the manager is reluctant as they seem to be stopping the specialist range, which angers me no end, so im going to pitch it the looking gaming group instead... (wish me luck  o_o)

Im currently writing up the list now so I should be adding that later today or Thursday at the latest. I hope you enjoy the photos.

O and lastly I know this is lead adventures, but I dont really know many other games, so be gentle haha. Saying that I am looking at some of the games played here and would love to give some of the more Victorian/steampunk ones a go...

The Warrior Priest & Halberdier have a very Mordheim, gritty feel to them. The brushwork & bases (nice sewer grate) are TERRIFIC. GREAT WORK!

We have a rather incomplete player location thread over at Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum that you might want to check out:

Excellent work.  I like your creative use of the railway terrain.

Who makes the warrior priest model?

Who makes the warrior priest model?

Its a forge world limited edition model from last year, their event model. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Events they may still have some left for sale but unsure. May be worth emailing them if you are interested as on ebay they go for quite a price...

Thanks for the kind comments. My old railway bitz-box got kept when the layouts went so I can still have a rummage through to see what comes in handy for wargaming  8)

Nice figures & beautiful shrine!

The bases in the 1st picture look like a lot more than just plasticard, especially the one with the skull on it.  This kind of simple basing is exactly what I'm looking for for my Crom project.  Do you remember what company make the card?
Remember, remember, the Dalek December
With Paris in ruins and London in ember
In times of the future when fears are abating
Don’t try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting
Quietly planning and scheming and hating…

The one with skull is actually a resin base kit from games workshop as far as I am aware  ??? sorry about the mix up. The 'plasticard' (think I may have used the wrong word there by mistake) sheets I use are from faller kit's and wills kits. A link below for the wills kits.
Its from their scratch building range, you can get molded sheets with various textures. I used a lot during my railway days haha so had a few bits put to one side...
