German Opera help.

Hey maybe you guys can help me.
Many years ago I watched a glimpse of an Opera or Operette that was made as a movie. It was fantasy or just medivial I think. There was this guy maybe a king or prince and he and his guys were out riding and they came over some "ghouls" who they talked too.
That was all I got to see before it was switched off. Now I think it was in German but I could off course be wrong. Does anything of what I say ring a bell? I remember it looking really cool.

That sounds rather Macbethish to me. Can't remember if it was ever made into an opera... Apart from that I have honestly no idea (since opera isn't really my kind of music - okay, maybe the Music but I mostly can't stand the singing - I know, I'm a barbarian...)

There is a Macbeth opera. Composed by none other than Giuseppe Verdi.
In 1987 they also made a movie of this, so perhaps that's the one?
