Problem trying to build Dixon stagecoach
« on: 16 January 2014, 05:55:37 PM »
Finally trying to put together my Dixon stagecoach, and it looks a bit of a beast that will require a lot of 5 minute epoxy  ;)

One thing I am not getting to line up properly is the floor of the actual coach (the curved pieces with the seats on them.) There's no way to fit them together such that the stagecoach walls fit cleanly alongside them. It's as if the floor sections of both pieces are too long. Even if I overlap the floors , one on top of the other, the walls of the coach don't fit. Does anyone remember if you actually have to cut off the floor from one piece to get it all to fit?

Thanks

Steve

I have built a number of these over the years. I don't recall having to cut any of pieces to make them fit.

It may sound silly but you might be holding the two pieces together the wrong way round which would make the walls seem too long for the sides.

Its hard to explain, but there are more than one way to hold the two sections together. What you are thinking are the floor sections may well be the back and front walls. Rotate each piece 90 degrees and try again?

I hope that makes sense.

The only issue I have had with these is having to file alot off the underside of the roof to make it fit snugly.

It is a B*****D of a kit to put together though!

Wow! Talk about fast service!

Malamute: You were right! I thought the front and back walls of the stage were the floor. Flipped around they actually do fit. Thank you so much--I must be blind  lol

Did you guys go the epoxy resin route for building this thing? I can't imagine superglue will be strong enough to hold it together...

I think yout thread must have jogged my memory as the more I think about it I remember pondering the same thing when I first put one together lol

Superglue for me with no issues. (one is still going strong about 20 years after i built it)

Its pretty sturdy once you get the sides and roof on. :)

Super glue, cussing and bonded skin :)

Dave will no doubt be along to tell you that I stuck him to a 15mm Mk. IV tank once ;)

Used greenstuff on bagagethingy though. Otherwise glue was enough...

Mine is still solid after numpty years' service, stuck with super glue as Phil says, though I am no longer stuck to the 15mm MkIV... :D

I agree with Malamute. I used Lepage's Superglue Gel and it set very quickly and I have had no issues with my stagecoach. Good luck.

You should have bought the diecast, pencil sharpener Stagecoach!  You just need to add horses and go.

While I've never built one of the Dixon ones, nothing makes me more angry than large complex metal-on-metal kits.  Even worse if they're fliers (looking at you 2nd/3rd generation Warhammer Space Marine landspeeders...jesus!)

NOPE.  lol
