WWII Project - Rules of Engagement WIP
« on: January 22, 2014, 08:25:17 PM »
So, I have been away from the hobby for various reasons for over a year I belive, and I am slowly getting back to it. Some modeling and painting is actually going on, and I thought that I would share some of what we are working on.
Primarly its WWII forces for the Normandy and post Normandy, ie. the period between that eventually leads to the Ardennes Offensive. Ardennes and such will be incorporated as we go along.
Along with the models project, we are also working on a new table. All three 60x120 boards are cut and the basic enviroment have been decided. We have been working and testing some various materials for the groundwork and such, to achive something that is to our taste. More pics will come after the weekend.

Along with a massive vehicle and miniatures change, since we opted for 1/48 scale and abandoned the 1/56 stuff, it have been a rather large investment in new models and miniatures. Not to mention a shitload of stuff to build and paint. One of the advantages is the fact that one can use photo etched stuff to enhance the models and to play around with. Fun stuff, but it takes it toll on the patience, I can assure you that.

Some pictures of whats going on. Along with this, we are also currently building and painting quite a lot of non-military vehicles, like lorrys, tank-cars, motorcycles, private cars and whatnots. Kalle is also building and painting US troops and vehicles en masse. Some airplanes to go along with this of course :)

Looks like some lovely work.  Shame to see it wasted on the Normandy stuff!  lol  Great stuff though!

Great looking stuff! I've been thinking about going for the scale modelling "scales" in wargaming too as there are just wonderfully detailed kits. Decided against it as all the models would take so much longer to build. I have to admire your patience for building up armies from them!

I use 1/48 vehicles with Artizan design WWII stuff : I think it fits since the vehicles doesn't have a base.

I like the idea of the machine guns base.

Yeah, it is absolutely great to combine my lust for model building and wargaming at the same time. There are so much cool vehicles in 1/48, both military and civilian, so it yields great versatility.

I am enjoying the model building by it self, using photoetched and other after market products, just for the pleasure of it. Well the metal barrels and such are so extremely nice! :)

Kalle is doing a great job with the civilian vehicles, and we have found some neat after market stencils and transfers for commercial cars, like gas company lorrys and whatnots.

Not sure I do understand why it would be a shame to use it on Normandy? Its by far one of the more interesting passages in the war, even though I prefer the period after Normandy, and right before Ardennes. My other favourite is Kharkow 1943, wich will give me the opportunity to use other SS units (I do want some Totenkopf and LAH vehicles in winter cammo). So, naturally, there will be stuff for that in the future (I am allready painting some troops and vehicles for it, shhhh dont tell Kalle).
