Pretty cool...only ever played it once or twice, but I've been checking out the old school rules, and would like to pick up that commemorative edition, just to have one.

I shall have to roll for my reaction to this news.

Bah, that second pic is obviously not real in that there are girls playing.

Maybe D&D will now have a midlife crisis, quit its job and buy a motorbike.

Bah, that second pic is obviously not real in that there are girls playing.

Actually, unlike war games, I found from 20 + years of AD&D & other RPGs that nearly half of the players are female. Some are in the game due their boy friend/husband/whatever's interest in the game, but the reverse is also true. HOWEVER, I admit I've never seen Girls that resemble those Babes playing the game.

When I think of Fantasy, images of the TSR version of the game flash through my old mind...crawling through creepy caverns & dusty, dangerous dungeons is what it is all about for moi.

I have played with girls (down at the back) but not very often. There is only one occasion I can think of when females outnumbered males, and very often there have been no females at all in my gaming groups. There have been 'no girls' more often than girls getting anywhere near 50%.

My OS ROG days were quite blessed.  I never had much luck getting a legit gaming group at my school, they tended to break up in short order.  However, there was an open house at the library and one of the groups that came out of that was a nice mix of young people and adults.  I think there were 5 adults, 2 of whom were women and 4 young people aged 12-15, one of whom was a girl.  That group only disbanded a few years ago after just shy of 25 years.  So for myself, there was a string female contingent from the beginning.

The long lasting groups I was part of generally were comprised of couples with one all guy group thrown in for diversity sake. The BEST was my friend Mike's Group; Mike's sister, the LOVELY Marianne, invariably came in costume..I'll leave the images to your imagination. In the first set of D&D one of the misprints was "lather armor" intended to be "leather armor". We tried to convince her to appear in shaving cream...to no avail. Smart & sexy can be a disappointing combination.

I'm the same age as D&D.  Fitting as it has been with me most of my life.  Just saw this on another board yesterday.
This is my boomstick!

Funny it's only 40, I am playing rpg for 30 years now. Started with a project week at school, when my best friend started a pupil led project and I thought: "F***, no sports projects left to join. Roleplying, -bah- I will manage some theater time."
It turned out to be so nice, that wen met the weekend after the project week and never let go rpg gaming. We even stayed in contact in pre internet times when ne went abroad and I styed in Germany. Nowadays we have our bi-weekly group of plain dungeneering.

Other than that I started a group with my eldest son (14) in it. Another friend advised his eldest daughter (14 too) to join the team.

So now I play with the next generation of gamers.

As I grow older, the gaming groups get to be mixed sex. I cannot say that I ever encountered women in the pictured kind of clothing, though - sadly.
I think it wouldn't have made for better storytelling either  lol

Cheers

I met my husband playing D & D 24 years ago! Long story here. I had never played and was intrigued. He was my first Dungeon Master.  ;) There were 2 other girls in that group as well, but none like in that second pic. That balding dwarf on the left looks kind of familiar though...
