After months of inactivity we kicked off Flintloque again with a bang. Nine players with 3-4 figures apiece as the Ferach Armee tried to evacuate Bishop Alfredo Garcia from the town while the Grand Alliance were trying to put a musket ball 'tween the toad's yellowy eyes. Taking the field were all stripes of troopers from Saxhunde Dogmen, Orc Rifles, even Joccian Rats. Rivalry between Finklestein dwarves were high as a few Black Horde Badasses also filled the area.
The cavalry wisely stayed in reserve and eventually barreled through to bring pain and death to the Joccian Rats.
The Bishop himself was escorted by 'elite' Todoroni . As usual for Valon's bravest soldiers, they rather hid behind a line of Saxhunde Dogmen and commented how each other's uniforms were quite dashing and darling.
Yes, indeed, the Todoroni spent most of the game staring at dog butt as the Saxhunde soldiers tried desperately to out shoot the Orcish elite riflemen.
A special detachment of 50th Foote widely scorned as Red Eye Rorick's Raiders took the field in usual drunken fashion. Being my group, they all suffered the flaw 'Sauce' and everyone of them turned up drunk. Summarily the Brewswick Black Horde Dwarves proved themselves superior drinkers and clobbered them completely. The Black Horde section leader especially distinguishing himself by decapitating two Orcs single handed. Bad melee roll followed by a worse steady check on my part and I lost two figures back to back with automatic kills.
Supporting the cavalry were so Ferach regulars that proved there muskets were as capable of sharpshooting as any Orc Bakur rifle.
Joccian Ratmen attempted to charge the cavalry and well... It was brave and somewhat successful although it ended in a bloodbath and even after the charge we had a rogue cavalry element causing grief across the table as he was desperate to protect the Bishop as Finklesteiners were trying to bring the frog of the cloth to the ground.
Somewhere midway through the game. We'd just started exchanging musket fire at range at this point.
Finklestein Dwarves tried with some success to lure the Bishop entourage into the open to be sniped by elite Orcs armed with Bakur rifles. To this end the valiant Saxhunde Dogmen lead the assault and ended up as the rifle targets while trying to get range with their fabled blunderbusses.
Black Horde Dwarves... They shot better, fought better, and drank harder than any orc on the field.
Here you are, folks, the brave Todoroni honor guard valiantly running behind any available building to keep their warty hides intact.
Why? Because Finklestein Dwarves were steadily advancing and filling the air with smoke and musket balls.
The Ferach infantry tanlged up the Joccian advance...
And then...
All hell broke loose as the Ferach cavalry charged in with swords poised to strike.
Did the Bishop escape? Did the Alliance put his head on a skewer?
Well...
"Here, your lordship, hide in here!"
Game time was over and the game was technically a draw as the Bishop failed to make it through the lines and the Alliance also failed to put a scratch on him.
Next game is March 2nd where we will probably be doing full sections again as we were refreshing ourselves on the rules as well as just getting back in the swing of the game. Everyone had a great time and it was a nice turn out for reviving our monthly Flintloque game.
